What Brand Engine oil to use for brand new g6 engine 991.1 GT3
Just purchased a 2015 991.1 Porsche GT3. It has 22k miles on chassis but just recently got a G6 engine and am currently in the break in process which I have currently about 1200 miles on new engine and keeping it below 4-5k rpm. I was wondering for the future what would be the best brand of oil to use? For context, I live in Cali and don't plan on driving the car much in Winter, so I would suspect the lowest outside temperature the car would be operating at would be around 50F. I also have no plans on tracking it either, just purely street driving with much spirited driving in the backroads.
I have heard of a lot of different options, people jumping up to 5w-40 etc. At the moment I hear that Motul Xcess 5w-40 is good oil to use but heard that it is only A40 approved and isn't compliant with the new C40 approvals that Porsche GT cars need. I have also heard of really good things from Redline, AMSoil, liquimoly, and even some people going oem mobil 1 0w-40.
My car has a factory warranty on the engine until the end of this year 12/2026 and I am also under a third-party warranty from Autrella for the next 4 years as well. From what I heard, if I kept the receipts of the parts purchased for said oil changes, then that would be enough evidence that routine maintenance intervals have been done. I would really like to hear your guys thoughts as I am new to the P Car scene.

Your model year uses an A40 approved motor oil; however, there is also 'chatter' the C40 spec can be used.
Initially it was reported the A40 spec could not be used in the C40 spec models (992 gen particulate filters), but believe that's since been reversed.
You can easily Google the spec sheets for comparison.
Your owners manual will state up to 5w-50 given regional temps. I highly recommend a 5w-40 or 5w-50 viscosity even for daily use. For me the Mobil 1 FS X2 5w-50 is the only motor oil proven thru very hard use (track) that holds its viscosity as intended. Ironically (or not) the new Corvette ZR1X uses same product.
Motul is a great motor oil I have used in the past, but the oil analyses do not lie.
I plan to switch to a proven DRIVEN product AFTER the G6 warranty period ends but until then, its 100 percent remain with an A40 spec motor oil.
The motor more than likely arrived with Mobil 0w-40 from Stuttgart (A40/C40 prob unknown), and the dealer will refill with same after break-in unless you know them well and can trust they will add your own provided oil, or purchase thru their parts dept.
I’m in a similar boat and have done a lot of research on this very topic. You’re going to get differing opinions on this but the long and the short of it is “it depends”

There’s a nice thread on Bob is the oil guy debating different oils but it was closed because it got too contentious. I started with liqui moly but I’m going to try driven Di40 on the next change. Redline 5w-40 (ester based) or motul 300v would be next for me. But again, would really depend on ur use case and how often you wish to change oil. GL

Yes... the oil-club.de also asked for it. Btw., I drained 6.2l today and just filled in the new oil. In 2 weeks I will do a complete change incl. filter before my first trackday with that engine. So it will be relatively clean C40GT in the beginning.
