Bought my 991.1 GT3 RS, did some interior upgrades, then decided to that the car really lacked Apple Carplay.. Thought about the piggyback options, whole new head units, found on the 991 Forum some select few were doing acutal Porsche PCM upgrades.
I am a stickler for original, OEM like upgrades. I went down the deep rabit hole, will post all the folks you need to get ahold of, and things to buy, but for today, I post a picture of carplay in a 2016 GT3 RS with Factory PCM 4.0.
PCM 4 is the PCM out of the 991.2 generation of Porsches. Improved touch, bigger screen, more interface screens, faster, and native apple car play / android auto, all with factory parts (minus the harness).
The aftermarket alternatives are fine, but if you're a stickler for OEM level parts, and newer integration this is the way. I now have other screens like fuel economy, etc all on the PCM.
Does the track precision app still work with your new setup? I'd love to do this one day as the Joeyauto box just sitting on a rats nest of wires in my dash lives in my head rent free.
How did you get the gt3rs silhouette on startup? I purchased PCM4 from NMAuto with latest updates but he states the screen silhouette on startup states gt3rs but has a gt3 silhouette instead of respective gt3rs which he states comes like that from factory. Anyone know anything more about this or how to remedy a solution, thanks!
I’d love some more details on the install, were you able to fix the issue where the screen in the instrument cluster wouldn’t show the map? AFAIK this was the only thing the other walkthrough on Rennlist/YT wasn’t able to find a solution to.
Well if that looks that good and I'm taking the car apart anyway, may as well do this than update the 3.1.
Going to update to the 992 shifter
And add back up camera
plus add roll bar while the seats are out.
and may as well do the exhaust while the bumper is off.
can you list everything you had to buy and part numbers?
To be clear this is not a plug and play operation, it takes tech saviness. If you don't know how light coding works, or how to boot your computer to bios, best not do it.
Things you need:
1. PCM 4- You source your own.
2. Test Drive Scottland Sells the harness and does offer support on the process, I paid for his support (Well worth it),here is his youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTA...9kgcGeV_w2PDeQ
3. You need a Porsche Piwis (To flash the gage cluster, and flash the PCM, both on updating the firmware, and configuring the settings). I bought mine of a member on Rennlist. While he helps you configure it, you need to be computer savy to install imagines he send you.
4. You need a car charger capable of least 30 amp that feeds power to the car during flashing.
5. You need an SD card, and ability to program the SD card to flash the PCM with latest updates (Again Test Drive Scottland, I paid for his support).
6. You need tools to disassemble the PCM / glove caprtment, felt electrical tape, and tools to ever so slightly modify the dash plastic behind the PCM as the PCM 4 is slightly longer and hits some ribs.
Those are the major things, a lot of small steps and butt puckering moments when you're flashing modules and they freeze in progress for 20 mins.

You need a Porsche PIWIS to code the PCM. You can change the siloutte to whatever you want. Both boot screen and background. Gt3, GT2, touring, etc all possible. It doesn't have the .1 GT3 RS, but does have the .2. Most can't tell the different.

You do lose the map functionality in the cluster, as the cluster even with an update runs different maps. Apparently, you have to buy a new gage cluster from the .2 for full integration. Not worth it to me. That being said the native nav does work in the screen with direcitons and is MUCH better than PCM 3. You can also disabel that screen (The maps menu) so it doesn't show up, and is no longer a non functional option.

Yes, you can change it, but you need the Porsche Programing Tool. You can't do it from the menu.

I checked, if you mean this one, it works with the Chrono package just perfectly.
