Oil pump failure

Was at a local Porsche meet yesterday speaking to a chap who said his 991.2gt3 suffered oil pump failure back in May at (from memory), 27K miles.
He said the OPC, quite a large one in South of the UK, told him his was the 4th such failure on a .2 this year they had seen!
I know there was talk of oil pump failure on pretty much new cars (possibly a production fault), but a bit worrying if they just have a weak spot.
Not much data to go on, but wondered if anyone else here had any info/ suffered similar?
Cheers,
Mark

Dealerships do have a habit of BS-ing or exaggerating in either direction.
If we extrapolate how many dealerships they are (keeping in mind the amount of allocations they got) and multiply that with an average of 4 failures per dealer I imagine the message boards would be overflowing with broken .2 engines to almost the same degree as the .1 which clearly isn't the case. Of course most failures are never reported because not a huge percentage of owners are online in places like this but that goes for all models not just the .2 so the relative comparison holds.
Unfortunately only Porsche at this point knows how common certain failures are and they're not publicly sharing that data...

I am sure they will keep quiet and after emailing a GT Porsche specialists, it sounds that it may be the camshaft shims that fall out (possibly exacerbated by the speed of pdk shifts) then get sucked into the engine and oil pump, causing the failure.
How is your engine going JC, after the shift issue at N Ring?

It's got about 1000 more miles on it now and two more days at the Ring and hasn't failed yet. That doesn't mean it won't prematurely grenade one of these days but at least it's been fine so far.
I'm still not sure exactly how high it went, but at least 10503 since a fault code was generated during the over rev with that rpm stamp but I couldn't find if that's the peak RPM or whatever the RPM was when it wrote the fault code into memory. Have a PIWIS coming for personal use.
