Default GT4RS 4,17 R&P on a 991.2 GT3 ?

Hello all,

I own a 997 3.8RS for the moment which I absolutely love for the analog feel and though for a moment to sell it to get a 992 GT3. But the more I read the more it feels like a 991.2 GT3 is the best idea because it would allow me to keep my 3.8RS, especially as the market has come down a lot in Europe for those 991.

When came the question of Manual or PDK, it was a hard one to answer. I mainly drive on the street, and own a dedicated track weapon, also my 3.8RS is obviously manual so i figured I might go for a pdk.
After a lot of reviews, I saw that also the PDK might be the best for street driving has it allowed for more fun instead of the extra long 2nd and 3rd on the manual.

So here comes my questions, i have a dedicated GT3/Cup car gearbox specialist not far from me that i would entrust to do some gearbox work.
I saw that the GT4RS has a shorter R&P 4,17 than the 991.2 3,97, has anyone though about putting this in the 991.2 PDK box ? Would it fit ?
Curious why some companies haven't developed a even shorter R&P for maximum CUP/Rally race car feel.
Because I think it would made for an even more engaging PDK drive on the street to have like a 4,3 or 4,5. 991.2 has bigger tyres than the GT4RS if i recall correctly too so might need more than just the 4,17...

I bought my 3.8RS for it's shorter R&P and LWFW, but now that I drive it hard on small back french roads, i feel it could be even shorter on 3rd and 4th so would love to have more infos before committing to a pdk.

Thanks a lot

Didn t know that the GT4 RS had a shorter final drive and I d like to know what maximum speed in each gear it makes compared to a 991.2 GT3 especially as you are saying the GT4 RS wheels are smaller

I don t know if it s possible to fit the shorter final gear ratio to the 991.2 GT3 but it could be nice , even if I feel that with the PDK and 9000 rpm the 991 gt3 and gt3 rs does not feel particularly long ( and I like to fit short final rations on other cars )

I would say that it really depends on what you mainly want to do with the car, you already own a 997 gt3 rs that is smaller , manual , raw, and more suited for the backroads etc

The 991 GT3 is absolutely a really really good car , better for normal use , better for long highway distance , better for laptimes on track , better for the PDK gearbox and 9000 rpm , but if you are not usign it on track or for longer distances I think that you would not really enjoy it
more than your 997 gt3 rs on the backroads especially because of it s size and higher limits

I think that , depending on your use , you should keep your 997 GT3 RS , maybe even make some mods as a shorter final drive , a CAE shifter , an aftermarket rear LSD , good gearbox oil , stiffer engine and gearbox mounts to make it even better on the curvy roads

Then if you can drive a 991.2 gt3 PDK and see how you like the final ratio and the car

Another option would be a GT4 or even GT4 RS

Thanks for your answer !

Yes very curious to see if the GT4RS R&P would work i guess it should given the state it is the same box. My gearbox guy is actually very very affordable and can make on demand parts as he does all the gearings for old bugatti's, or 60/70 historic race cars.
Maybe because the tyres is smaller the difference is more evident on the 4RS than it would be on a GT3 but still could be nice.

I drove a 991.2 PDK very briefly and yes I found the gearing fine for track but to have fun on the road it is too tall on top of 3rd your are in jail. I had an Alpine A110 and you could play with 2,3,4 on a b road that was really fun ( but yeah it is half the power ). I would love Porsche to make a 300hp 1100kg car with a really short box, a few car manufacturers are going back to that fun driving experience rather than performance orientated.

Concerning my RS, it already has RSS arms, a Guard 40/60 diff, and a numeric shifter. I was thinking about continuing to upgrade it with parts like Ohlins suspensions, some shorter gears, Dundon D4 package and a Tilton clutch but then arrived at the conclusion i might be better off with two cars that are different than one fully optimised with compromises. My wife hates the 3.8RS, so we usually go on road trips in my NSX-R.

You alrady have really nice mods on the RS

For sure the 991.2 gt3 is more refined for road driving and longer distances and also really fast , It could be for sure a nice mod to fit the GT4 RS final drive if it can be fitted

another option could be a 718 gt4 pdk with mods maybe

NSX-R ? Pictures ?
