Default RS Engine Cover Fans Operation

Hello all. I’m trying to understand what condition must be present for the fans to kick on. Are they always running or do they run only when certain operating temps have been reached? I’ve searched the owner’s manual, service manual, and all threads and posts looking for any discussion on this topic without luck. Will they run with the deck open?

They only run when the engine is considered "hot". I think there is a specific temperature at which they turn on, possibly around 200-210 degrees. They will stay on with the deck lid open, if necessary. There is a COV that triggers them, and mine broke at one point in time, and had to be replaced under warranty.

I am studying the ECU maps right now on the GT3, it looks like the fans come on at 208F.

They came on in my GT3 all the time. But I never saw them come on in my RS.

CoV is the corona virus, a odd mutation of which was responsible for the COVID-19 "pandemic".

Alternatively, COV may represent one of these when referring to automobiles:

What does COV mean?

I was particularly referring to COV as abbreviated for "change-over valve".
