Default 991.1 GT3 - How To Tell Which Engine Version?

On the 991.1 GT3 is there a physical marking/stamp that indicates which engine version (E, F, G, etc) is currently installed? Can you provide a picture of where this marking/stamp is located?

I see some other threads about this topic but can't seem to find an actual direct answer to this question.

Look under the rear deck-lid. Mine is in the upper-right corner (E-series).
Some say it's also on a sticker in door jam, but I have no such reference.
Just ordered updated stickers through ECS depicting the G60966 Ser# and will place one under the original at rear, one in front under bonnet, and another in the maint book.
Porsche did not annotate ANYWHERE my new motor Ser#. Not even on the invoice receipt. Had to remove oil pan cover and check myself (2nd pic).
You can also have a Porsche SA run your VIN and they would know.

E-Series motor

G6 series motor

@slipaway37 thanks for that info. So it sounds like removing the oil pan cover is the easiest sure fire way to physically tell which engine it has?

Is removing the oil pan cover simple or more involved? Wondering if that is something that would be okay to do during a PPI?

Easy-peasy with a Torx 30, race ramps, or lift.
And yes ask to confirm during the PPI. Either confirm with your own eyes, or have them take photograph.

I just picked up a 2016 GT3 RS; I checked the sticker on mine and it says G06992; does this mean I have an early G engine or a revised G6 version? Car was produced 10/16. I'm under CPO 3 year warranty so not entirely concerned; just curious.

No need to remove the panel if you have a phone camera. Check this out this you tube video

That indicates a G0, not a G6.

Thank you. That is what I thought. I guess I have 3 years to hit the lottery and get a G6...

And the RS don't have G6xxx engines, because the "6" is only in the replacement engine number. RS have G0 and H0 and thats totally fine and same tech as G6.

Thank you for clarifying. I was not entirely sure if the RS had a G6 version. What is the H0 version? Is that for the 991.2?

I did my research before purchasing and it seems like the RS engines are a bit more reliable. I'm certainly happy with the car and as stated have a 3 year CPO. This is my first GT car after wanting one for 17 years! I cannot believe I actually own my dream car.

The letter just refers to the production year. E=2014, F=2015, G=2016, H=2017 and so on. It just tells you when the enige was built (production year is not same as calendar year). Not what kind of engine it is However G6 is special as it is used for alle the 3.8 replacement engines build 2016 and later.
The engine types are:
3.8 = MA175
4.0 = MA176
4.0 2nd Gen: MA177 / DGGA / DGGB
4.0 with particle filter and ITB: MA179

But there are different revisions of all that engines. Not that easy as it seems in rennlist, right?
