I can understand doing complete replacement, but the cost strikes me as gouging. And 6-year-old with ~38K miles shouldn't need a new transmission.

But if a component in the pdk fails the only solution is replacement if the only option available is replacement!

Unless you can get a refurb pdk from elsewhere...

I believe that’s the refurb cost …

I had two E92 M3's, great car when it wasn't in the shop dealing with various oil leaks and blowing engines. Would never buy one again after what I went through but still love them. Catless or sport cats with Eisenmann race exhaust sound is epic.

Could you elaborate on the circumstances of blowing the engines?

Rod bearings, common issue. My second e92 had the engine replaced under warranty at 25k. The second time it blew after another 25k (and 10k on the SC kit) I had ti pay for a new engine because it was supercharged and tuned, but it was def the rod bearings again even though they were upgraded to aftermarket.

Thanks for that info. I'm planning to replace my rod bearings, and won't be doing any mods to the engine, so hopefully I won't have any issues. Do you recall what the replacement engine cost?

From BMW it's about $25k plus labor. I got a used one for about $7k and then we found out that had issues so I had it torn down and rebuilt at a cost of about $10k. Fortunately the engine had a 90-day warranty so they refunded me the entire cost, therefore it cost me about $13k for a freshly rebuilt engine including the install/removal/re-install. But it was a lot of time and headache for sure, took almost 4 months from start to finish.

Great cars. Rod bearing thing is overblown for the most part, just don't tune it and make sure it is warm before pushing it. Throttle actuators are another weak spot but relatively easy to service.

I am not of a mod guy but I added the Akra EVO full exhaust and it is one of the best sounding cars I've ever had. Can only imagine the sound in a vert. I was actually just searching for one about 5 minutes before seeing this thread. lol
