Default What is truly a Porsche GT Car?

What actually constitutes a Porsche GT car? I was under the impression it had to come out of Andreas Preuninger's "GT" division. Also, where the cars are manufactured and off which assembly line they roll has also not only been a source of confusion but has changed. By whatever definition, are any of the GTS models true GT cars? What about the 911TT & TTS? I did not think so.

What is definitive here if anything by today's standard?

Thanks,

G.

Pretty sure most would say just the GT2, GT3, and GT4. GTS and Turbo are not considered "GT" for the purposes of your question, though they are definitely grand tourers.

The GTS cars are usually little more than the C4S/C2S with the power pack and a bunch of option boxes checked. They are still awesome cars, but there is nothing inherently special about them.

If they don't come from AP, they aren't Porsche "GT" cars.

This may help:

Whether it's the 904 Carrera GTS, 914/6 GT, 911 GT2, 911 GT1, 911 GT3, Carrera GT or Cayman GT4, only very special Porsche vehicles get to feature ‘GT’ in their name. The abbreviation generally stands for ‘gran turismo’ and can loosely be translated as ‘great ride’ but at Porsche, the two letters also mean something else – racing with road approval.
It comes down to the technology transfer from motorsport to series production – and the team behind it. "GT within Porsche is not only the product,” he says. “It's not only the letters on the car: it's also the team and the spirit. It's a small group. It's an integral part of Porsche motorsport: where we have racing cars and road cars combined.”

718 Spyder is also a GT division product.

Also GTn are FIA racing "classes" defining the specifications for cars competing therein... not that this bears a great deal to the GT road cars

Whatever Porsches decides to badge the car is what it is. The 1984-89 911 was badged Carrera (nothing else) and had no direct connection to motorsport. The 92-94 RS America carried the RS designation but this North America only variant had little of the ROW 964 RS substance.

doubt it. even a 981 spyder is based on the gts, not a gt car. 718 is the first gt spyder
