Default Advice - Front Axle Lift on 991.2 Touring

I am looking at purchasing a 991.2 Touring with no Axle Lift. I've unsuccessfully searched the forum to see if Porsche will sell an OEM Axle Lift and install it? (I've left word at my local dealer but haven't heard back yet). Alternatively, I'd be curious to hear about anyone's experience with after market solutions and how they plug in with the PASM.
Thanks!

How sure are you that you really need it? I've had GT cars w/ and w/o FAL and, while nice, I don't think it's absolutely necessary.

I have them on 2 cars and don't use them much but it is amazing how many guys buying pre-owned think they are really necessary. I guess it depends on where you live as some cities have pretty bad streets I.e. Houston

it was a pain selling my 458 without one. literally the first question most buyers had.

To go factory I expect you'd need to replace the front dampers, add the FAL compressor hardware, any controllers and wiring looms, and code the car for it. It shows status in the cluster and lowers automatically at a set speed.

Aftermarket would be cheaper after all that, I'd bet. But not cheap. Not sure what options are out there for the 991, but Techart and others had options for the 997 GT3.

As for whether you need it, only you can say. For me, it was a must have given the configuration of my driveway. It's that or ramps/bridges. Modifying the driveway wasn't an option. It's part of the reason I traded the 997. With the crap infrastructure of Pittsburgh, I use it multiple times per trip to get around the city, and every time going in and out of the garage.

Living here in LA, I use the FAL on my Touring almost with every drive. Even with it, I still scrape sometimes, despite my best efforts to take dips in the roads, ramps and the like at an angle. I would not let it stop me from buying a 991.2 Touring if you otherwise like the spec, that is for sure, but do be prepared for some scrapes whether you install the lift or not. As for aftermarket, I considered it for my 991.1 GTS (as it was not an option from the factory in the 991.1). Through RL, I found out about the TECHART nose lift. I found a certified installer in San Diego but the cost, all-in, was about $10,000, which was not worth it to me. Rather, I just change the front spoiler once a year or so which costs less than $500, including paint work. I am going to have to change the front spoiler on my GT3 as well, eventually, but I am three years into ownership and I have yet to feel the need to change it, thanks in most part to the lift. I do think it would be a worthwhile expenditure for a GT3 as it sits lower than a Carrera. At the end of the day, it will probably cost you about $7,500 more to get the lift installed than if you had it installed with the initial build.

Here is the link for the TECHART lift for the 991.1. I could not find a link for the lift for the 991.2 but I would imagine it is compatible with the 991.2 as well:

Lots of post on this 50/50 on what you will hear. Some can live without and some can’t due to where they live.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. This is my first 911 and I don’t know if I’ll need it or not. I guess the splitter is just another piece of plastic and I do intend on driving the car lots so knowing that it can be replaced is nice. I really like the spec of the car - it’s got everything I want but the lift… oh well here goes nothing

Personally, I say the key factor can you get in or out of your driveway? If so the rest you will figure it out ……..me personally I can’t get out of my driveway.

One way to look at it is this...the original owner didn't ruin the car without it, you'll probably won't either. I know, likely different location, etc., etc., but I believe you'll adjust fine. And, if it's not your primary transportation you'll learn the places to avoid. If your driveway it too steep there are some ramps you can purchase or build something yourself to make it work. Good luck

no FAL on my gt2rs and i am just fine. getting out of my driveway is the place i have to watch out the most, otherwise just stay cautious.

Do not buy a GT3 without it.

For a Touring at a good price, go for it. Front lip is replaceable.

Even if you don't need it, when you sell a GT3 without FAL there will be a smaller pool of prospective buyers.
