Moving to the Prancing Horse

Congrats! Totally makes sense and I always enjoy(ed) your posts on the 2RS. Once the deal is complete would be interested to know some additional information on the trade. I actually just traded in my 2019 gt3rs WP, after 2 great years and 10k miles added the inflated price of it just made me too uncomfortable to keep banging around the back roads which is all I really used the car for. I ended up trading it in for an almost new Shelby GT 350 R with less than 1k miles , manual transmission and a check back for $165k on the trade difference including all taxes after the dust had settled. I just used the extra 165k to buy another rental property for cash that will generate around 1,700/month. So I think I’m moving in the right direction at least financially :/ Hope to be back in a GT3 touring though someday. And side note any weekend ICE car I add from here on has to have a manual transmission. Again congrats! Look forward to some comparison feedback as you break in the new Rarri down the road too.

Congrats on the stunning 488. They are great cars and so different to Porsches to make any direct comparison irrelevant. I always have a Ferrari alongside my Porsche in my garage at any one time. A few years ago it was a 458 and a 991.2GT3, through a 488 and now have settled on a 812SF and a 2019 RS WP. Both Ferrari and Porsche build stunning drivers cars and on balance Ferrari build better engines and Porsche better chassis.

We Porsche people appreciate quality cars, and the 488 is definitely a quality car. Of course, its an Italian car, so the engineering requires a little more maintenance. But if you can afford to buy a 488, you can afford to hire the team needed to keep it humming that incredible Ferrari sound.
Good for you!

I have an FF and driving it is much more of an “experience” than even driving the GT3 I had before that. Currently selling because the market is nuts and it’s hard to turn down the profit but I really really love the car. The V12 screaming at 8000 RPM through a tunnel or underpass sounds absolutely insane. I’ve been having seconds thoughts on selling. You won’t regret it, and there’s always another car around the corner if you do for some reason.
Do yourself a favor and buy an Antigravity battery. Best $1k you can spend on a Ferrari. No battery tender and never have to worry about stupid battery-related electrical issues/CEL again.

Good luck with the Ferrari purchase. Believe me, Ferrari ownership is more expensive (although, I haven't owned anything in the realm of 488 or newer which should be more reliable) but I think it is well worth the cost. In your situation, the one thing that I would be concerned about is reliability. You can drive a GT2 RS often and do so very spiritedly while not giving a second thought as to the reliability of the car, this is not the case with a Ferrari -- at least not in my experience.
As far as, "I am buying this purely...to...be seen driving it." is concerned: I can't understand this point as that is one of my least favorite perks of owning a Ferrari/Lambo...Porsche has a big advantage in this department, IMHO.

Congrats on the addition. I recently made a similar move albeit from a 997.2 gt3 to a 430
scuderia. The scud does pull at the heart strings moreso than my gt3 ever did. Good to have a Porsche and a fiat in the garage though if possible as the two brands approach the same problem in a very different way. Having a few aircooled cars in my stable in addition to the Scud has allowed a greater appreciation of both brands. Enjoy your new car in good health.

congrats on the move, in the recent month I have been seriously thinking about acquiring a scuderia or challenge stradale and do a 6speed manual transmission conversion. Unsure of their overall quality but that gated shifter is endlessly alluring, ingredients are simple yet potent: mid-engined RWD, lightweight version, v8, NA and more importantly manual. I know their OEM transmission is basically a computer actuated clutch similar to BMW’s SMG, so strong syrncos and conversion is viable. Welcome to hear everyone’s input

Congrats on the purchase. Great looking car in classic Red/Tan. Also, I think you'll come to appreciate the 488 more than you imagine and it'll be more than just to be seen driving it and saying you owned one. While I have no experience in a 488, a friend of mine has a 430 which is an amazing car to me. They have an incredible amount of emotion to them and many of the Ferrari clubs have some great drives and experiences for you to enjoy your car on.

Congrats on the car. I hope the buying process works out. I have been contemplating a similar move. I love my car but I can’t stop staring at Ferraris. It is where my eyes gravitate to. The wife is against it right now, specifically just the timing of it, and so I will wait and in the future, if the itch is still there, I may very well trade my car for a 458/488. Ideally I would like to have both a P and F car to serve different purposes but that wouldn’t happen until a long time from now. Until then, I will enjoy my P car as it’s very fun to drive and being able to drive it almost anywhere, which practicably speaking, you can’t do with a F car. Enjoy your new car. I would love to hear your thoughts on your decision.

We had a 16M for 2 years and the sound/feel really rips emotions and puts smiles on faces

OP first of all congrats on the 488. Lovely car.
Off topic: I do think the idea of going for a rip on “backroads” in FL is a misnomer. The chance of your tire sidewalls gets any wear or “getting to the edge” is absolutely nil. There are literally no turns on the way to New Smyrna (unless of course you detour to Daytona for a track day.). So your 488 spider with sofa seats will do just fine and may be a tad faster, signal-to-signal, than your GT2! Enjoy in good health- as you know, most FL drivers do not know how move out of the way from the left lane. Careful out there!
