My understanding is that the color is only an identifier for Porsche. Black = standard brakes, Red = 'S' upgrade of the vehicle, yellow=carbon ceramic, Acid Green = the vehicle is a hybrid, so there is probably some regenerative braking.
I think for some of the other models Silver also means an 'S' upgrade.
Probably the only thing that is important is knowing the pad/rotor size which will be different based on the type of vehicle (standard, vs 'S', vs PCCB, etc).

My guess is you specifically want to know spec differences of the hardware? I believe Girodisc includes everything to go from your PCCB (yellow) calipers to their iron rotors.

guess I didn't make myself clear I was told by Porsche rep you can't run steel rotors with yellow calipers , have to change calipers to red,( Girodics sells a swap kit ), so i guess my question is there any physical difference or operating difference between the two

As have done about a dozen in our PCA group...
Worked fine for 2 yr.......
Converted back to PCCB before selling the car...
Never heard that comment before....

Yes, you have to change something because the rotor size is different between PCCB and Steel brakes. The yellow caliper fits the 410/380mm PCCB rotor and the red caliper fits the 390/390mm Steel rotor.
No, you just need to buy the 410mm rotor from several friendly vendors (don't forget mating pads)

GiroDisc has iron rotor conversions for PCCBs. Porsche iron rotors are different sizes than carbon composite rotors, so Porsche is saying you need the red calipers from them if you use Porsche GT3 iron rotors.
Buy the GiroDisc rotors for your car, with PCCBs. You may need new pads for the front brakes to fit around the top hat.
Call or email GiroDisc or Suncoast Porsche Parts if you have questions.
Also look for suppliers. If you are in the US, I bought mine from HardRacing in North Carolina.
