Here in Texas, we take the summer off due to the heat and get our cars ready for the next season. You could say it's the reverse from those folks up North. I asked my track shop Porsche expert to come up with a list of things to do on my .1 GT3, knowing it's been tracked enough times to reach the 6k track mile marker. Here's the list, if anyone out there wants to reference this when considering their next maintenance window.
- Oil & Filter
- Air Filter and Engine Drive Belt
- Plugs & ignition Coils
- Rear wheel bearings (Porsche recommended @ 6k track miles)
- Rear Center Nut (Porsche recommended @ 6k track miles)
- PDK Oil & Filter
- Gear stack fluid
- Rebuild Axel Shafts
- Inner and Outer Boots
- Grease CV Joints
Rotors, Pads and Brake Fluid are changed throughout the year.
Needless to say, this isn't going to be cheap. Any of the track experienced rennlisters out there care to offer up an opinion on this list? What's missing?
Suggest check the booklet. I no longer have the .1 book but for the .2 it is recommended to replace all 4 central bolts every 6k miles. Also at 6k is replacement of rear hubs and wheel bearings. Front hubs/wheel bearings due at 12k track miles. Interested to hear the condition of the bearings when you replace them.
When I was racing, I would replace the wheel bearings each season. It sucks to have a bearing fail during a weekend.
Porsche made the recommendation for a reason. With the sealed bearings there's no way to inspect or repack the grease. Unlike the old cars, where you could inspect and repack.
Just got the car back. Took a while to get all parts. $7700 with taxes for the routine 4-yr service and 6k mi track service, around $5k for parts.
Took the car straight to Orbit to install emotion engineering stage 4.5 suspension package! Old parts were on frunk and in the end never checked them. Will post some pictures once I get the car.
Porsche would not let dealer give me the old wheel nuts!
Why? They are your parts. You bought them. You own them. I have my old ones sitting right here. I put them in an ultrasonic cleaner and keep one as a decorative piece on my book shelf.
