Default GT3RS engine in a base GT3??

Hey, guys. I have a 2014 gt3 and the engine was replaced in 2020. Having trouble locating serial number on the engine. Attached is a pic of the only stamped number I can find but did think there was an H series engine?

Wait, the MA176 is the 4.0 RS engine.

Also, they used the "H" designation instead of G.

Did you hit the super lottery?

These were my initial thoughts when I saw it. Do you think this is possible!?

Technically, it’s the same engine just stroked a hair. So why not?

Would be curious on the electronics front though, could a base GT3 ECU run the 4.0 without issue? Not sure if there are any differences there outside of the rev limiter.

Maybe see if the dealer who did the install has any additional documentation, part numbers, etc.

Whoa, first I've seen this happening. A quick search shows that the part number of the ECU between the RS and GT3 is the same. I'm wondering if it's been flashed for the RS tune, or if it's still on the 3.8 GT3 tune and 9k redline?

That's cool as hell. Were you the owner when the engine was replaced?

I was not. The engine was replaces in San Jose in 2020 and I bought from a dealer in Houston about 6 months ago. I do have the receipt from the replacement but just lists standard part number for 991.1 engine replacement.

The redline is a good (*interesting*) non-scientific test.

Side air intakes exist on the 991.x RS bodies. That'd be pretty cool though if you ended up with an RS engine.

Any indicators if its a .1 or .2?

MA176 is a .1 RS engine, so 1st Gen 4.0. Cool thing... if this becomes standard, the engine lottery is more promising than ever before 😂
