Tow hook cap removal

Tow hook cap removal
I recently got a fix it ticket for not having a front plate in CA. I was going to put a plate on the tow hook attachment temporarily. I followed the instructions in the manual to push on the bottom half of the cap on the bumper but even with very firm pressure, it doesn't seem to come off. I think there's one more thread on here that I couldn't find again. But is anyone just using a plastic card to slide under it, and if so which side? Or is it just normal to need so much pressure to remove it. I just don't want to cause damage for such a simple thing.

Don't use a credit card to try and lever the tow hook cover out, you will only just damage the paint. (been there, done that)
You just need to really push very hard on the bottom half of the plug to remove it. If your thumbs are not strong enough to pop it, get somebody else to try. Once you get the knack, its easy but the first time can be tricky.
