Default Key fob remote distance

Kind of an odd question, but what kind of range should I expect for locking/unlocking from the key fob? Unlock range is only about 10 ft, while lock is about 20 feet. My F350 will unlock/lock/remote start from about 150 feet away without any major obstructions.

Just wondering if I need to dig the battery out and order some new ones.

I haven't tested it for exact distance, but I can definitely unlock the car from at least 50 feet away. Might be time for a new key battery.

An old trick (but it does really work) is to place the key up to your chin or other exposed flesh and then try it. See here for more. Not a long term solution but it does work.

All our P cars have a range of 25ish feet at best...

Agree our Raptor has a 50+ feet distance...I had an IS300 which was easily >100 feet but our GX470 is <15 feet...don't know why so much variability

Thanks guys. I only have one fob, so I can’t test a backup. I’ll try a new battery (and the chin trick) when the pollen subsides.

I believe they deliberately limit the range to counter some "man in the middle"/relay electronic attacks that are possible w/these systems...

I really thought that might be a possibility. Especially since the lock distance is consistently further than unlock. Maybe I’m imagining it.
