Default 991.2 RS vs 992.1 GT3

I was considering an upgrade to a 991.2 RS at some point and the new 992GT3 has me reconsidering just getting one of those instead.

There are similarities between the cars: price, CF options, lap times, tires, etc so it makes it a hard choice for me. Interior is newer for 992 so that is a plus but there are more buttons and ***** on the steering wheel of the 992 that I don’t like.

I was hoping to get other opinions. Please share your thoughts between the two cars.

Specifically between those two, personally I’d take the 991.2 RS because an RS is an RS.

Plus the 991 series will age gracefully better... IMO.

Often someone who really wants an RS buys an RS, in any generation. You can expect that each iteration of a new model will exceed the performance of the outgoing, or it would be tough to market (sell). It sounds compelling and frankly a smart strategy, to highlight how much improved the 992 is. And indeed they have added options typically only available on the RS. Deciding between these two cars should be easy considering they are different generations and unique in styling. You could add the 992TTS to your list if just considering how quick it is on a track, as those are plenty capable too. I believe at this stage and price point you get what your gut tells you. I love the RS for how it drives, handles, sounds, etc. Other than full leather and buckets, I don't long for any other technology inside the cabin. I use bluetooth to stream Pandora and don't care how the music sounds as it's just background noise when the engine is idling. There really isn't a bad choice here. Personally, I like waiting until things calm down with the newest generation. Good luck!

someone on another post put it well: 992 has same tire compound, tire size, transmission, basically same downforce, horsepower, price and ring time. question you have to ask yourself is do you want an RS/more classic design or the newest latest and greatest? id guess they feel 98% the same to drive

warranty isnt an issue, just buy CPO + they are bullet proof unless you do something stupid like redline when cold

id take a 991.2 RS

Another factor to consider is when you could get a 992 GT3, it may be a while. And the added dealer markup could be a whopper. Carpe diem.

I can't wait to see what they do with the new 992 GT3RS...
Hopefully the engine sounds meaner... It's going to be impressive no doubt

I went through a similar debate with a 991.1 RS vs. 991.2 GT3. I pulled the trigger on the RS, loved it. And ultimately ended up also owning two different 991.2 GT3s. I'm glad I owned the RS mostly because it would have been 12-18 months w/o a car had I waited on the GT3. Time is more precious than money. Unless you are the type who really wants a brand new car, I'd lean toward getting the RS even if you leave open the possibility of another car deal down the line.

Consider this when you compare any RS to a GT3 the RS is more of a visual and experience in person.
Other thing to consider is tire compounds the newer cars have them when tested. I recently put the CupR tire on a 997 RS and was surprised by the new grip level.

That new 992GT3 ring time is not apples to apples while impressive my 991.1 RS from Manthey has ripped off a 6:46.

Great decisions to ponder.

I have never been a fan of the RS. I think the Wing look stupid and too racer-like.

I am not one who would like the attention

Given how similar performance times are I would get a 991.2 RS again (I stupidly sold mine 5 months ago) but at these prices I’ll just buy a new one. If the market on used RSs does come back down to a more normal level and have a decent enough gap to the new gt3 (especially if it has adms) I’ll buy a used one.

I like buttons. I discovered I really really like buttons and my current cars may be my last for awhile.

RS prices right now are too high, I’d wait for when guys are upgrading to the 992 and buy the RS when they flood the market in the fall. You’ll get more colors/specs to choose from and you’ll have a car sooner than the 992. If you then get the itch for the 992 you’ll have something to trade for an allocation, or just hang onto it and have both......

RS. More HP, same engine (save for ITBs). No particulate filters for 2018 models for weaker exhaust sound. Better aero, and more weissach package. Minimal car performance difference (most of it can be attributed to new cup R tires by 992). Possibly worse acceleration.

New GT3 is a design downgrade.
