One user on here had a freak bottom end issue, not the finger follower failure though.

They're fine but a lot of time will have to elapse to gain consensus.

Just got my car back after 3 weeks at the dealer for misfire on Cylinder #2 i thought i was in for new engine but nope. They said injector caused the misfire. So they swapped out spark plugs in Cylinder 2 and 3, swapped out the coils and the bad injector and Alternator. So far no CEL light drove it hard for 30 mins home to see if warnings come back and none have. I’ll take it out a few times to see if something comes up. One thing i can say the car feels a little different like it’s struggling. And on 2nd gear at 8k RPM i hear a whining noise.

15,xxx miles. 8 track days.

The car started to lose power, you could feel the misfire at high rpms. Got the CEL with multiple cylinder misfires.

New G6 coming this week.

Are you on the original engine? My gut feel is it doesn’t take long if it’s track driven.

I have 11K on my 2015, 7500 are track miles. No issues yet but get a ton of smoke on start ups. Hope she goes down in the next 2 years warranty is over 12/24!

My engine went out right @ 18k miles. Took only a week to get a new one. For those of you who may be wondering how much it would cost post warranty, if original engine core is fine, $68k, if not $93k.

Yes original engine. It’s a 2015 with 27k miles F series engine. I’ve already had two misfires but of course Porche has a bulletin they need they need to go by before they can swap engine out. Which includes spark plugs/coil packs/alternator and so on. If misfire returns upon driving then they keep troubleshooting it. So we’ll see how it goes when i track it. I actually have to drive from Nyc to Atlanta that should be fun in itself.

My dealer claimed it is a $45k engine. Then there is the labor… Whatever the cost, it is a very expensive job.

As an alternative, you can get low mileage 4.0 motors for $25k - $45k last time I searched. Idk what the cost to install would be…

Another backup plan is the Dundon solution which I believe they are still planning to make available after 2024.

Porsche appears to have made progress in the diagnostics and I believe they can spot the problem sooner now. But as the warranty expiration nears owners may have to be vigilant and insistent at the slightest signs of trouble.

FWIW I was told by Porsche NA that dealers are not applying the diagnostic procedures correctly. You may not actually need to change coils/plugs/alternators etc. I’ll send you a pm.

With so many 991.1 GT3s essentially being garage queens, I wonder what the reputation and value deterioration will be in 2-5 years when the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 8th, whatever owner blows up the previous gently driven garage queens just by driving them as they should be driven, and then face enormous repair bills...

It's definitely a Porsche motorsport/GT car that I do not see holding super strong value long term. Even those with replaced late series engines, not sure the general market will have the precise knowledge to make that distinction.

We’ll see what happens. I for one drive and enjoy this car as much as i can given the time. I shipped the car from Nyc to Las Vegas last year and drove it to California had it out there for 10 days. If the engine goes and i get the G6 i’ll be driving it just as much. I enjoy this car every second i can. I’m driving it this coming week to Atlanta to track it then Hit up Tail of the dragon. And if i have time i plan on Visiting PCNA museum.

Looks to be a $70k gamble for those cars without the G6 engine. Maybe a less expensive option will exist in a couple of years? Hard to imagine that some of the potential repair costs wouldn’t be incorporated into the value of the .1’s near and post warranty end.
