991.2 GT3 Touring Demand: What the Flacht is going on here?!
So, it seems that the 991.2 GT3 Touring is currently the hot new blonde in the neighborhood. I had a guy on IG offer me MSRP for my light ivory Touring yesterday. And I have received other feelers. I know that I am not alone in this regard.
I see that even some non-PTS Tourings are going for MSRP or even over MSRP at the moment. I think the reason for the hot market is multi-factorial. Limited supply, COVID-19, no 992 GT3s delivered until later this year and I think it also has to do with the fact that the 991.2 GT3 (Touring or otherwise) is just an amazing car and many of those who were late to the game want the wolf in sheep's clothing, as it were. I also think that some may prefer to spend at or near MSRP for a pre-owned 991.2 GT3 rather than playing the whole allocation/ADM game and some probably just prefer the styling of the 991.2 over the 992. Whatever the case, it seems like every Touring that comes to the market is sold before you can say the word "go."
The prospective IG buyer was amazed I have put 10,000 miles on the car. I am interested in hearing what others have to say about the increasing demand for the Touring. Yeah, yeah, I know, it is just an option package. But that option package sure has tickled a lot of car enthusiast's fancies, hasn't it? And for good reason.
The picture below was taken after a hard-earned summertime bath. The Touring break a sweat? Hardly. This car is like Secretariat at the Belmont Stakes in 1973. It just pushes and pushes, effortlessly. It is an exquisite machine and a marvel of German engineering.
The marketplace is hot as it should be for a great car. Every time I drive mine I get presented ridiculous offers but I’m not a seller, and some can’t take no for an answer and continue with $$$ offers. IMO, All 18-19’ Touring’s PTS or not stay strong and if you can get one...... GET ONE !!! Such a fun car
Tourings have gone up. I also feel the winged .2 manual has gone up too.
To add to what you said about reasons why: There just aren't many cars like this anymore. Manual, 9000 rpm, near 3000 pounds, with excellent build quality and reliability What other high end cars are like this ?
Manual 430/Gallardo/R8/Murci/v12 vantage - a bit dated now. tires, brakes, suspensions, chassis, etc have all improved drastically since these cars came out.
458/Huracan/R8 - paddles only and the next lambo probably wont have a v10 anymore.
Mclaren / 488 / AMG GTR / Vantage - all turbo
The viper is an option too, but then you get into dodge vs porsche, i'll leave it at that...
Answer = it is fun to drive and it is a unique wingless version of the GT3. Whether it is the best car ever made doesn't really matter as long as it meets the expectations of the person buying it. IMHO, whether they produce 100 or 5K, what does it matter if the car provides a great experience for the owner.
A few chances.. Always a day late and a dollar short... CNC snagged one away from me locally. I was on my way home to grab my trade and when I got back to the dealer the salesman said sold to a wire transfer customer.. Only had 1500 miles, GT silver 157k from mercedes... CNC took that car and listed it for 187k. ****ing bastards.
Very simple- And not to discount the Touring in any way - But - too much money on the streets and 2021 Model delays for new cars thru out the Automotive Industry. By shutting down some production during Covid they cut Supply while demand has remained strong. Low interest also a factor. - Strictly Economics Dear Watson.
what Jimmy-D said... couldn't agree more... just wait a few mo and with spring, 992 Gt3 release coming 2/16 and orders being accepted and.... progress on the C-19 front, I wouldn't be surprised if things subside a bit, but the old adage you could die tomorrow so why wait also applies . If you have the means it's a fantastic car.
I say this jokingly, but I think there is some truth to it. If you go to the forums list, and check the viewing section, the 991 GT3 sub forum is almost top 2-3 viewers all the time (997 is usually #1, but not by much). Considering that the 991 GT3 is an extremely low volume vehicle in comparison, there is a disproportionate number of people viewing this forum.
Thus lurkers like me get easily swayed by the non stop positivity on these forums and then buy the car. Similarly, since sin alerón owners think there cars are the best thing since sliced bread now everyone wants one......lol.....😁
Every car is hot, new and used....We went to LR in Hartford last weekend and the placed was mobbed....people looking, people buying, it was nuts....we went for a test drive and they handed us the keys and said please don't steal it....someone took one last week....

It’s nuts. I know someone who paid $15k over for a low miles dealer spec car (18 ways, lots of interior and cosmetic options, steels) and thought that was stupid money. Well, nope that apparently was a good deal.
My personal theory is that the 992 is a bit too spaceship for a lot of GT3 buyer type people and the nostrils are turning people off of waiting on a 992.
Sticker on a ptstouring is theft right now, even with 10k miles. $20k over easy. List it for whatever you want and see. Even very high price ones (to me) seem to sell in no time.
On the other hand, a GT3T seems inexpensive compared to a 911R and a ptstouring is cheap compared to a pts 911R. So while the GT3 depressed 911R prices, I think the 911R prices are helping the GT3T.
