Default 991.2 Center Lock Nut Issues

Anyone having issues with the center lock nut parts separating when removing the wheel? Is it just a build up of the Hi-Temp lube pushing the pieces apart? It's a pain getting the wire retainer ring snapped back into the groove that keeps the parts together, and the mess of cleaning off all of the old lube. Any tips would be helpful.

I have the same issue with one of mine. I found a full clean with wd-40 and relubing the whole thing before re-assembly helped.

I had the same issue at first. Hated my CLs because of it. Discovered I was using waaaaaay too much paste on my parts. Once I began using a more reasonable amount of product the problem went away.

Yep pretty normal that they come part, particularly as they get older and tracked a lot. Just use enough to coat the inside a little when you change the wheels. Too much just adds to the problem.

I recommend cleaning the parts thoroughly and re-lube per Porsche instructions. It should help to clean the groove as well as the retaining C clip and reseat the clip completely in the groove.

Thanks everyone for the input and the PDFs. I do a lot of DE, so changing tires often. I guess it's all part of the "FUN".

It’s not very hard to rebuild and grease and does make a big difference. Don’t grease the wide flat washer though...

Appreciate the dialogue on CL nut and their Maintanace. Everything shared is also my experience with them coming apart etc. What are folks using to clean the CL, anything in addition to WD-40? and thoughts on treating CL as a maintenance item and replacing after x years or y miles? I replaced at 38k with a third being track miles, at 5 years. The new CL nuts came with current dates on them indicating recent manufacturing.

CL nuts to be replaced at 6k track miles per Porsche.
edit- I don't have the manual handy but if you have 12k + track miles I think you are also due for bearings/hubs replacement.

Based on my experience, the center lock nuts that split have absolutely nothing to do with amount used, or tracked; the nuts split if you use too much grease.

e.g I just tightened a new, arrived from manufacturer, center lock nut on one of my wheels, and put much more than ample grease; 30 minutes later, with no miles driven, I decided to loosen the nut, and it split in two pieces (see below)

Yeh most people apply way too much lube. You only need a tiny, tiny amount and likely don't need it every time you change your wheels, especially if you change often. Just smooth it out and make sure it's clean.
