Default Anyone notice numb steering at 12 o clock on 991 GT3?

Recently picked up a 991 GT3, and i notice when going over bumpy roads, the steering wobbles back and forth on it's own like crazy, and when i'm on the freeway, i can shake the steering a few degrees to the left and the right with no movement to the front wheels. Is that just how the steering on these cars is? I remember I drove a 991.2 C2S, and it's steering was straight and solid, no kicking left and right. I did have the car aligned more to SPASM spec, with minimal camber and more toe in, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference. I don't see many threads complaining about steering in this forum, so i'm not sure if it's just me. Other thing to note is that my car has some pretty worn PSS tires on them, that could be exacerbating the problem.

Thanks!

If I move my steering wheel a little bit it turns - like millimeters. Steering in mine is really tight and has no numbness whatsoever....but mine has just over 1000 miles on it and tires are basically new (Cup 2s)....I don't notice the movement of the steering wheel with bumps and really no tramlining, whereas my M3 with 265/295 front to rear tramlines a lot on the same roads (MP4S)...Not sure that helps but this car has the best steering I've ever experienced in a car since they went electric...

These are hard threads to reply to because it’s all feel/subjective. But I would not call the GT3 steering imprecise. Sounds like tires, pressure or something worse.

Nope.

Especially if you're comparing the steering to a 991.2 C2S.

The steering feel in my 991.2 GT3 Touring is leaps and bounds superior to that in my 991.1 GTS.

Steering is tight and responsive on the .1 GT3. You might want to have that looked at. I'd be nervous having any play at high speeds.

+1
One of the best aspects of the GT3T is the precision of the steering - I know exactly where I am, Left-to-Right, and can place the car to the mm in a turn.

All the cars with electric steering are a bit numb compared to the best hydraulic and manual racks, but I'd certainly never call it sloppy or imprecise. Sounds like an issue worth examining.

If anything, I'd say the 991 GT3 steering moves around less in my hands (filters more noise) than the systems mentioned above.

I find that when Cup 2 tires are cold, the "on-center" feel does feel a bit dead. I notice when tire pressures warm up it gets better.

But all modern electric power steering cars tend to have dead "on-center" feel. If you've driven a modern BMW, even the M cars, the on-center feel is especially dead feeling.

Porsche does a good job tuning their EPS steering but in short, it's a characteristic of electric (991) vs hydraulic power steering (997).

When you say you had your car aligned to "SPASM" specs, what are you referring to? I was not aware Porsche had a "Sport" suspension alignment spec for GT3.

basically minimum negative camber of 1.5 degrees, and .1 degree of toe in, the shop just used the 991 non-gt3 alignment as a guide.
