Leather on Doors and Dash - Opinions Please!
Been looking at the .2 GT3’s. I see the car posted, open the link. Clean - check. Mileage - check. Bucket seats - check. No leather on doors/dash - hhmmm! Is it an option worth passing for? I plan to track the car. Some have roll cages already. Some don’t. I love the luxury look of the leather with stitching. I think it makes the car look extra special. But am I just being picky? I mean a part of me says, “take that engine to 9,000 rpms Down a stretch and see how much you care about that leather trim.” I don’t think it does much to the resale value of the car in the used market down the road, but I could be wrong.
All thoughts welcome (never heard that before did ya).
Thanks,
Matt

It really does not matter.

I always thought the leather dash and doors make such a difference to the inside. The M5 and M6s I’ve owned I always wanted them. Thought it takes the interior up another step.
however Porsche interiors are really solid and nice, I wouldn’t mind a car without it.

After having full leather, its hard to go back to the base interior which feels spartan in comparison. Imo you shouldnt sacrifice on something significant when spending $150K+

My 2018 GT3 had the rubber dash. My 19 has leather and red stitching. It really make the interior much more of a special place to be. The rubber has a high quality feel but not close to the quality look and feel of the leather. The red stitching makes it really awesome IMO. For what these cars cost it should be standard.

I have it in my .1 RS and IMO it is something that is nice to have, but not having it is not a deal breaker for me.

For a race car I would say who cares but for a personal car even if just on occasion I would want the leather.
There is also a problem on the door panels the non leather vehicles seem to suffer glue failures on the door panels.
good luck

Leather adds more depth to the interior. For 991 I personally think it's a big deal having full leather otherwise you get the cheap door panel without the matching trim as on the dash. If we get the proper full Clubsport package in US with fabric buckets like in the ROW car then that's a different story. I can see that without leather. Without proper Clubsport package, Full leather in a must.

Put me in the (minority camp) of utility/focused, tool-like philosophy of GT track cars. My inspiration are race cars with spartan, functional interiors. I wish the door cards were full carbon! I happen to like the feel of the soft-touch surfaces but I understand that most folks spending the coin wouldn’t stand for it at it gives the appearance of being down-market.
But I think you kind of answered your own question already—you think it looks more special with it. Leather interiors are cost prohibitive to change after the fact, so if you even think you might regret it, then you should definitely find one with it. Honestly it shouldn’t be that hard as most seem to have them specced already.
I’m also in the minority in that I’m not a fan of alcantara, though I know it’s super popular right now. Not a fan of the mottled look, and wish there was an easy option to spec it like the GT3 touring with true, full leather interior.

Didn't have it on my .1 GT3, had it on my .1 RS....much nicer to have BUT would not be a deal breaker at all if looking for a used one....would definitely check the box if I was ordering new

As I intend to keep this car pretty much forever, I went with the base interior. To me, it fit with the style and purpose of the Touring. (Cloth/corduroy-ilke seat inserts, no frills, light weight, etc...) I do wish the doors had the same trim as the dash and center console though...
As for leather dash, I had one in an older Ferrari and hated it. It was a bear to clean/condition and regardless, it kept shrinking over time and warping the dash. They do look nice when new though.
