Default Am I the only one wearing gloves?

Just curious, is anyone else wearing gloves during normal street driving to keep their Alcantara steering wheel clean? And, in theory, to help improve grip?

i can’t wear my OMP Evo DE gloves every day on the street, so I just bought a pair of black Fox mountain bike gloves, stretchy, comfortable, and thin palms, to help keep the steering wheel in decent condition. Anyone else doing this or am I the only douchey Porsche owner that wears gloves?

Never wear my track gloves, inless on the track.

But, I do enjoy, on occasion wearing my leather street driving gloves.

Those cold CA winter days get chilly.

Sub 60 degree and my fine Italian leather gloves find there way out of the gove box and onto the hands.

But I do agree. I also have a pair of Cycling stretch cool gloves that I actually like better than my fancy Italian ones.

When I had my GT4 with alcantara wheel, I always wore Sparco gloves (stick great. I don’t like bare hands on alcantara for keeping clean and I find it slippery). But I ordered leather on the GT3 and bare hands work great on It.

I have a pair of Dent driving gloves I occasionally use in my R8. They are top notch leather from England.

My DD is alcantara as well. Never use them for that. It cleans really easily though where it’s synthetic. It’s not like real suede which will wear out and soil easily.

When I had my 991.2 GT3RS, I wore gloves every time I drive to keep the steering wheel in great shape too.

Why don't you put on your racing shoes as well for improved pedal feel?

I'm probably going to put a pair of driving gloves in the GT3 since it has an Alcantara wheeel. But not for the reason you'd think.

Lately I've been doing a lot of outside and garage work. Combine that with more frequent hand washing due to Cv and for the first time in my life my hands have been very dry.

I've noticed that Alcantara is hard on dry hands, it seems to continue to pull moisture out of my hands. The leather wheels in our other cars are much more friendly to my hands.

Won't get Alcantara on the steering wheel again, that's for sure.

I started wearing gloves w my GT4... and it carried over to the GT3... it doesn’t feel ‘normal’ to drive without gloves anymore... 😬😬

I remember a time when Alcantara was the cheaper option when compared to leather ...Still like leather much better and no driving gloves for street driving although acceptable if it was the early 80's post Miami Vice era

That’s funny that everyone likes leather better.
I do love it, but I love the feel of alcantara too, esp when I’m trying to drive hard.

I have it (sides) on my RS3, I’m doing a custom LMS shaped wheel in the R8 (based on the OMP Racing Kubic), and I’m looking forward to the GT3RS full alcantara wheel also.

Custom R8 LMS wheel I’m having made.

There isn't a dark enough window tint in existence for me to wear driving gloves while on public streets.

And at 18k miles my wheel looks perfect.

I wear gloves on the street and track

I wear black cloth Spyder glove liners. Perfect light and airy. Superb feel through the wheel for me. Wear every drive.

I don’t like leather gloves on alcantara.

in my Cayenne I wear black leather gloves as they have a great grip and feel with the leather wheel. Wear every drive.

I don’t like cloth gloves with a leather wheel.

hope this helps.

I've grown quite fond of my custom fitted 73 year old gloves. Wear them no matter what I am driving.
