Default Need Drive belt change procedure 991.1 GT3

Ok I have way too much time on my hands and I have been chasing a loose something in the rear right side of the car, so I started to remove the rear bumper and engine cover to investigate. Now with everything removed why not change the main drive belt, it has been 5 years so the time is now. Have any of you guys done this or have the procedure to accomplish this task.
One more question, could the knock be in the shock tower I have checked all of the other suspension fasteners.
Thanks Ed

Got it figured out, this will be an easy DIY. I am waiting for the parts to arrive but have the entire engine compartment cleaned and ready to go. Stay tuned

Suggest you review this thread, there is an issue with removing and replacing one bolt that causes the engine to sag a bit.

Hi Frank
I got the bolt out without a problem and if need be I will jack the motor a bit to reinstall it. Thanks again for the heads up.

Ok guys this job was soo easy your are crazy not to do your own. I received the belt yesterday and installed it in 10 min. The time consuming part of this job is removing and replacing the rear bumper. While I was in there I cleaned the engine and replaced the air filters as well as polishing the internal carbon engine cover. Good for another 4 years. Cheers

Glad it all worked out, with no sagging engine issues. Great DIY for low $$$$. I believe a dealer will charge close to $600 for this task.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve used your write ups to take off my center locks using your wheel guide and replaced my spark plugs as well. Any chance you could do a write up for the serpentine belt? That’s the last thing in my diy playbook I would need to be able to service the car myself. Also while you had the belt off, did you have to replace the belt tensioner or leave it alone?

Does the engine need to be jacked a bit before removing the carriage bolt? Do you jack it up from the oil pan?

I seem to recall in the threads that jacking up the engine is when you have issues getting that bolt out... otherwise I believe it should come right out through the opening. I'll be attempting this, replacing the little pulley shock absorber thing, air filter and plugs ....

But wouldnt the engine sag a bit once bolt is removed making it difficult to reinsert the bolt?

Is it safe to jack the engine from the oil sump under the crank?

Under the pan, but use a softer wooden plank between the jack and the edge of the pan to evenly distribute the weight. As I recall, if this does not allow you to raise the engine to the point where the bolt aligns with the hole than the engine mount most be loosened a bit, from the top.
Of course, you keep the jack under the pan until you reinsert the new belt and torque down the (new)bolt.
