Default extended service contract 2016 GT3 RS

So i decided to stop by porsche of livermore and inquired cost and service contract. Car factory warranty expired jan 2021 and current miles 9025. Sales guy gave me quote of $4900 7/70,000 from date of purchase. Anyone in here with extended warranties and can chime in? Is it recommended? I plan on 1500-2k miles a year and maybe 2-3 track days.

A local dealer to me offered to do an inspection for about 300 or maybe it was 350 with the intent of certifying (Porsche 2yr unlimited mile CPO). To CPO it would be another 3200 or so. I too have a 16 RS. The standard seems high to be accepted as CPO. Overall condition and tire depth taken into consideration. The benefit of CPO is it's backed by Porsche just like the original warranty with no deductibles and transferrable to a private party or if traded to a Porsche dealership. Sounds like what you were offered is 1 addtl yr coverage but not Porsche's own CPO program.

Yep- Inspection around $400 and CPO is $3150.- Not a bad deal for 2 additional years under Porsche rather than a 3rd Party

But doesn't that require a title transfer? Which would trigger taxes for some people.

From my understanding "yes" because Dealer needs to by back from you then resell but I am sure there is more than one way to "Skin a Cat"

I think it's odd the relatively flat pricing curve for CPO cost. Dealer cost for my Cayman S was $2,815, cost on my GT3T was $2,990 and I guess GT3 RS (per above) at $3,150.

There is no loop-hole that I can find avoiding sale/buyback sales tax implications, though I guess if you live in a tax-credit state it's a wash? One dealer implied Porsche hates when dealers do this and were reticent to discuss further, while another acted like they do it frequently for their customers. I'm sure like all things, depending on your history with the dealer, will influence their desire to do it. Remember though, they won't CPO it, even if selling back to you, without you paying dealer (markup) prices on everything on the check-list that requires correction, so possible the cost drifts up materially.

Fidelity or Liberty? Before you mentioned Fidelity which has a decent reputation, but I’ve not heard of Liberty.

I used the Fidelity on my last 997.2. There is a HUGE range of prices offered for the same contract.

If the warranty starts at date of purchase of warranty, why not wait until your factory warranty is closer to expiration?

I’m sure the experience is similar for most when the dealers sell it. The price supposedly goes up when you wait but I doubt it’s proportional to the time you lose for overlapping the OEM warranty and the extended?
