"SUB-ZERO" GT3 RS Mods (991.1 to .2)
Good Morning,
I recently traded in my 2014 GT3 for a 2016 991.1 RS (and am loving it). Although was hoping for a Second Generation model, budget and availability got me a first Gen 991. Although I loved the RS as it was, I have always loved the slight changes made on the .2 version, so went ahead and decided to apply those changes to my car. I started with a decision to replace the front fender vents, air intake scoops and Rear Wing End plates. Previous owner had also deleted the Clubsport Package, which resulted in the 18 Way Adaptive Sports Seats and no roll cage. Managed to get my hands on an OEM Roll Cage and had this installed as well. Finally got an opportunity to change wheels to the Vossen S21-RS, which got added to the list. The car also came with the clear Rear Tail Lights, which I have replaced with the RS tinted Red Rear Taillights. Only remaining modification I would like to do would be to replace the seats to the LWB Buckets, but waiting to find a trade or killer deal on those, since they are very costly. Sorry for the amount of photos, but the below will give you an idea of the process from start to finish, beginning with photos of the car when first bought a couple of months ago, and ending up with the final result. Hope you enjoy and would appreciate any and all feedback with your opinions on the work done.
GT3 RS WHEN BOUGHT
OEM ROLL CAGE INSTALLATION
UPGRADE TO 991.2 FRONT FENDER VENTS / SIDE AIR SCOOPS / WING END PLATES
VOSSEN S21-RS WHEELS FINISHED IN BRUSHED GOLD PATINA
REAR TAILIGHTS CHANGED FROM CLEAR TO RS TINTED RED
FINAL PRODUCT.... "SUB-ZERO"

Cool project. Was this primarily for cosmetic reasons or also for gains on track? Guess the fenders and wingplates have some definite benefits.
Funnily, I personally really love the side air inlets on the gen1 and seriously dislike the plastic inserts on the gen2. So unless there was evidence of any real improvement on air inflow (which I believe there isn’t) I would have them removed if I got the gen2.
Look forward to read how you get on with the car. Gen1 still very much loved by anyone who owns one.

Thanks Mika911 for the feedback. The intention for change was both (cosmetic and to benefit from any other down force increase). The Air Scoops upgrade supposedly "scoops in more air", but can't confirm that. I am quite happy with the way it turned out, and it does add a more aggressive look to the car.

Hi Jimmy. The tail lights do not fit on the .2. You would have to look into replacing the whole rear bumper I think for such a conversion and probably not worth the money (if even possible).

Hello Nizer. Thanks for the comment. Those brackets are for the front part of the Cage. Funny enough, Porsche actual weld these brackets into place for the vehicles that come with roll cages, so retrofitting was actually a challenge with the dealership since OEM cage come with a different base than most aftermarket cages. At first, the dealer said they couldn't/wouldn't do it since Porsche doesn't sell cages and/or mounting brackets. Secondly they should be welded rather than bolted. Finally, and after a long battle, I was able to source the brackets from Vivid Racing through Ahmad who was a great help. Vivid Racing got me the brackets from Agency Power, who make a replica Cage for the GT3 RS, and hence created those brackets to allow for fitment. The brackets attach to the chassis on a cross bar just behind the seats. Carpets and side rear interior panels needed some cutting and trimming to fit the bars, but remaining install was straight forward and smooth.

Nice work and car looks great... both before and after.
I'm planning on updating the side skirts on my .1 to the larger .2 version as they look much more aggressive in person. Doesn't look like it but did you update the side skirts as well?

With the cost of the mods and labor how much did you save vs just buying a slightly used .2?

Good point, but all the work i did (minus the wheels), parts and labor (everything installed by Porsche dealership) ran me around equivalent of USD 6K, which would not have gotten me into 991.2 low mileage territory.
