991.1 or 991.2 GT3 RS everyday of the week and weekends too. In reality it’s not close.

if you want street car, by that I mean less than 20 day on track. then you are buying "feel" any GT3/RS made has the ability to put u in jail. I also don't know the "streets" you drive on. most so cal nor cal canyons, if you have 200hp. it's same as 600hp. it;'s all turns. a well driven alfa GTV or 914/6 will eat the bumper off 991.2RS. it's all turns. if you care about absolute speed. newer is better.
if you want a track car, more than 20 days a week, buy a factory race car. it's $$$ but it's just money. you will have way more fun. even if you are slow as hell. I don't know anyone who has driven factory race cars move to street car.
you also said you are used to lwt, high hp feel. if you have a 3.6 or 3.8 300hp motor in a long hood. well, that feel won't be there in any newer cars. 996gt3 is the closes to that feel. but 996GT3 doesn't try to kill you on the straight, in the turns or while parked like. 300hp 1900lb long hood does... if you want THAT feel... stay where you are.
THAT feel... I took many friends all are very experienced GT3/RS track drivers. after doing that 15x I noticed a repeating pattern, it's very consistent. thus I wrote this...."why i like long hood
when I took friends out in 991.xGT3rs and even in my 991GT2RS in pouring rain, we smile, talk and occasionally sip latte and text the wives (no, we are way above speed limit I admit)...
in 997GT3RS4.0: no smile just talk in short sentences

in long hoods: they are visibly nervous and looking for handles and/or straps to grab on while pretend to be cool. I noticed they brace their feet against front firewall as I jump on the brake, seemingly unable to stop... I think they are scared. hell i'm scared too"

^ mooty nailed it. No one talks in my 6gt3 either, which is why I’m never selling it and am looking to add a longhood hotrod and a 997 rs. Oh, and should probably build that car barn. Don’t want them rusting away in the snow, lol...

go with 991.2 GT3
reasons are:
- better engine overall (9000 rpm, better mid range torque, reliable)
- exterior looks better than 991.1 (as does nearly every .2 911)
- more comfortable for DD and is still fast enough on a racetrack
- you can have it with manual!

You might want to take a hard look at the 996.2 GT3. You say you like lightweight, no ABS - and you want a GT3. Maybe that's your car - fewer produced, may hold their value and they've gone up slowly over the past few years. And the cost less than the others for the time being.
If value/depreciation is a factor, then Mezger engined 996/997 gt3/rs will likely outperform (overtake) all 991 gt3/rs long term, especially as the latter go out of warranty and the 992 gt3/rs arrives. Clean 997.2 rs are already higher than 991.1 rs of equal miles and condition, and much higher relative to their respective MSRPs. There were multiples more 991 gt cars made/sold vs 996/997 gt cars as the former appealed to a much wider audience/market. There are probably no more than a couple hundred clean 6gt3 left out of about 800 total imported to NA as a lot of them were heavily tracked and/or damaged.

For the street, I prefer the 996, especially for canyon runs where feel and sight lines are to me, more confidence inspiring. You'll have to get by the fried egg headlights. Might end up being like the Mark IV Supra, many made fun of the wing when it came out. now it's an icon.
Don't count on 991 GT3's appreciating if you are believer that big production runs tamp down values.

Older is not better. Older is nostalgia, older is romantic. It is not faster or better (well maybe lighter).
You stated that you want the more track oriented performance pieces on your GT3. So just bear in mind that if you go with a 997 GT3 they are not IMHO ready for track use out of the box for those who are on aggressive side (racers particularly). You will need for sure better engine mounts to insure that the transmission selects the right gear while cornering, a diff that lasts and of course the usual track prep stuff. Eventually there are other things that you will find 'wanting' like transmission synchros, PASM, flywheel etc. These are not show stoppers, but again my opinion by the time you fully track prep a 997 GT3 you spend more to not quite get up to speed of a similar 991 GT3 with minimum track prep. Tech has improved in the latest cars to the point that the suspension, center locks, transmission (PDK) are up to the task for hard track use.
Bottom line, if you are tracking I suggest you buy the latest model you can afford.
