Default Fabspeed to Akra move

When I installed the valved fabspeed side deletes a year ago the choice was based on fear of drone, fear of CEL, potential use of the on/off switch, an option that would still allow street driving, and some relief of weight to compensate for the roll bar. I can say also a more financially acceptable option to akra.

So it has been one year and I can’t get the race line headers/slip on akra set out of my mind. I like the fabspeed ones. No drone, a slight (real slight) improvement in sound. The on/off switch is useless. Still civilized enough to drive around town and go to work. But...

I barely drive the GT3 around town. At most every 2 weeks to work. Mostly drive to track for every 1-2 months for DE. So the car is mostly a track car. I think I am ready for the akra.

Can anybody who has had both or who know the akra race kit well help? I am ok with louder but would I still be able use the cell on speaker? Wife realized the 2 hr drive to Sebring is the best time to talk as I have nothing better to do. Also imagine driving the car up the hospital garage at 6:30-7 am on a Friday morning... There are so much bad drivers around Miami that I take it pretty easy and barely go above 3-4k rpm on the streets. But fear the thing can be still pretty loud and a little obnoxious in the medical campus.

what about CEL. Easy fix or constant annoyance?

So, doable?

How about a Dundon Street Header kit, way more performance than Akra, no CEL, no drone... If you wanted Dundon Race, also no CEL and no Drone, but you need a Lifetime Muffler as well as the stock muffler can't take it

I have been using the full race system from Akra on my .2GT3 with a no-name O2 spacer and no tune. It’s been 2,500 miles—no CEL.

If you're going to go for aftermarket headers, make sure they make power and are long tube designed. I'm not even sure Akra's even makes power.

Dundon, JCR, GMG, etc. there are quite a few manufacturers on here that are trusted with several dynos to back their claims up (Dundon being the biggest one afaik).

If you're after power, it's easy to heavily consider Dundon as they're just tried and true. If you're after pure sound, then there are other options that retain the OEM headers so there's 0 headaches involved with CEL. JCR's race pipe has become wildly popular, then there's AWE's switchpath exhaust, Soul's modular exhaust, etc. it just depends on exactly what you're after.

Phil from Fabspeed here.
I would love to talk to you about our long tube headers for your GT3 they are fantastic. We can help with the CEL by tuning or using the O2 spacers. The sound paired with the side muffler bypasses is amazing especially on the track.
BURNS STAINLESS COLLECTORS: Bringing our headers to an end are Burns Stainless Collectors which combine high flow and high velocity to increase and broaden an engine's torque curve. Our decision to utilize Burns Stainless slip on collectors was easy, their superior design and Burns stainless unparalleled 30 years of proven performance in Worldwide motorsport competition.

We have our Fabspeed sound solution as well!!

Thanks everyone. Looking for a little bit of both. Would love more sound but still well behaved for the few times I drive to work.

My impression was that akra did provide some power gain. But if dundon can improve sound and gain some power with no CEL I would definitely look into it.

Dundon street + black muffler would be my vote as the do it all exhaust solution. Akra is super nice stuff (I am running their cmb and its great) but if you want real power and sound and valves and cats Dundon is the way to go.

This is exactly what we do. We don't just make parts that are awesome, we use them on our own cars, track them, beat on them. Lots of options, give us a shout. We're small, but punch way over our weight class...

I've put Dundun headers on my GT4, 991.1 GT3 and a catted set on my current 991.2 GT3. They all made noticeable power, didnt trigger a CEL and all sounded fantastic. If you don't like them Jamie will take them back within 30 days. Try that with the others.

Thanks everyone for the input. I have made up my mind and ready to make the jump with a full swap with CMB and headers. I would love to have the luxury of trying out the dundon but I can barely get my car to the gas station. So once I take the car to the shop, that’s it. And for whatever reason I have my eyes stuck on akra...

I would like to thanks Eric, Jamie, Phil for the invaluable insight. However, I am not in a rush and will hang around the classifieds looking for a deal first. Seems like used ones are going for half the price of new ones so it is worth the wait. I don’t mind waiting and will be ready to pull the trigger once they pop up!

thanks again everyone

Try Akra centre bypass and their link pipes. Weight loss and amazing sound. No need to replace headers unless you are trying to make power.

Thanks much Josh!

@SToronto , I kind of have in mind to go all in now that I have decided to make the move. But let’s see what shows up in the used market. If nothing comes up and I get too curious I may do it step by step and get a CMB l first.
