991.2 GT3 manual vs GT3 Touring - anyone driven both on street?

Not positive it's the only reason, but the 911R weighs less thanks to carbon fiber hood, wheel arches, and magnesium roof that neither GT3 version get.
I have no idea how they determined top speed, and frankly, the entire power vs. aero discussion is pretty academic since it only applies to top speed conditions anyway.

Here's a question for you: Why does the 911R have a published top speed of 199 mph when the GT3 Touring's is 196mph when they have the same power and aero (although in practice the Touring should have more power, based on dyno's of the .2 4.0L motor). I'm thinking that the published Vmax is just an estimate and not necessarily the result of a road test.
And I agree vmax is an estimate.

I recall in one of AP's interviews, he mentioned the Gurney flap on the GT3T was in response to things the engineers learned about the 911 R and decided to do differently with the GT3T. I would deduce from that comment (I am not quoting him word for word) that they see the Gurney flap as an improvement in the aero over the 911 R. If the aero is actually improved (and I have no proof of that other than what I recall him saying in the interview), you would think that the GT3T would go at least as fast as the R. But at the end of the day, those are speeds I will never see in my GT3T anyway. If I hit a buck and a quarter someday, I'll be a happy camper.

GrantG - yep. No way I will ever push this car's limits. But I have to agree with others who have found the 991.2 GT3 in manual to be fun to drive even at low speeds. The driver engagement, the sound, the steering, the handling, its magnificent even when the car isn't being pushed. I can only imagine how epic the ride will be once I start to actually push the car to, say, half its limits.

They list the Touring's CD as .35, the wing's as .33 and the R as .32, which accounts for the difference. Wings are a more efficient way to make lift/ downforce than spoilers. The R is slippery but reportedly spooky at high speed- much less downforce than the Touring.

I suspect top speed numbers are calculated, quite possibly based on assumed (published) power figures. Real world given dynos and ram air I would not be surprised if the average winged GT3 was quicker than the average R (there’s obviously significant sample to sample variation).

The R actually had lift at V max and the Touring in contrast has a small amount of downforce..The guerney flap was fitted to the Touring in response to the R's lift issues..An upright spoiler is very inefficient in creating downforce compared to a high fixed wing..The winged GT3 produces exactly twice as much downforce as the Touring's spoiler and with less drag which accounts for the 3mph higher top speed...
