Not to be a smart *** (and I know you were kidding), but TC should prevent over-rev in that case (since front wheels are spinning slower) and rev limiter still active. Really can’t over-rev without botched downshift.

Sorry, don’t know what rev range in Type 4, but 1 ignition sounds like a glitch in the software and not a real over-rev

What car? Rev ranges are different for different cars.

Looks to have revved to 9420 rpm and was in over-rev (>9000) for 2.2 sec. Definitely a money shift. I don't see total operating time, just a record of when range 4 over rev occurred.
The over rev ranges on older cars had much bigger ranges. If this is a manual 991.2 GT3, then I guess over revs are 9000-9199 range 1, 9200-9299 range 2, 9300-9399 range 3, and 9400-9499 range 4 (since it shows 9420).

Do a google search for "911.com" and "over rev". There is a great explanation. For warranty purposes, Porsche would do a compression test if the over rev was within 200 hrs of operation.

I think the operating time is the time when it happened, and yes you might just have one ignition in a Range 4 overrev. Check the operating time to the current time to find out how long it’s been since it happened. The longer the better, eventually you can forget about it. My 997.2 GT3 had two significant Range 4 overrevs due to poor engine mounts while time trailing (yes, I’m hamfisted but that was the cause). Eventually the car received a CPO from Porsche for one of the new owners after I think 150 Hours after (or 200- there is a written policy that is out there somewhere). Not sure if it applies to the new 991 GT3’s but worth looking up.

So attached is report for my 2018 GT3. Notice code Z201 (Maximum engine speed reached)… I'm looking at a 911R, and they claim Z201 was not an available DEM reportable code for MY2016 Porsche. Can anyone confirm?

Can't help you, but this report says you've never had your car over 7K rpm? You're missing out!

^^^This report was run the day I went for first oil service at 1900 miles. Went to 7k on the ride to service. Didn't see 9k until after 2k miles!

One ignition in range 4 is maybe a few milliseconds. I'm too lazy to do the math.

If the range 3 ignitions were some time ago, likely nothing to worry about.

Actually, it's 0.04 milliseconds in range 4. To put that in perspective, it takes 300 - 400 milliseconds to blink your eye.

Let me help you. One ignition in range 4 is virtually impossible. I've seen many reports similar to this and they were all bogus.

Incorrect. One is possible, the peak may have occurred only long enough for one ignition. My overrevs (had two) were three and five ignitions. You don’t need a complete revolution to record a stage overrev.

Great DME tutorial/video over at the 997RS forum from Doug at Switchcars. Worth a watch...

Its not possible to hit only a single revolution at that engine speed with the momentum the reciprocating assembly has at those RPM.
