Hello folks, looking for some thoughts here. Looking to get myself into a 991.1 GT3RS or 991.2 gt3 manual. Looks like prices are pretty close and hp is the same. The car will be used mainly for hpde/open track events. I have been using my 997.1S manual for the last 5 years and its time to upgrade. I would normally choose the gt3 because its a manual, but like the looks/widebody of the gt3rs. I dont mind the PDK. Some cars are actually better with the Dual clutch (e90 M3 comes to mind, my daily). Will I regret getting the PDK if manual is available? Dont know. I know Each car feels different and has its positives and negatives. Want the one that feels like a race car. Again it will be 80% track and 20% street.
Any thoughts or advice would be great from people who have driven both. I am not buying it for the value, if I was I would get a corvette or camaro Zl1 1 LE for the track. I like the looks of the gt3rs, . This is strictly an emotional decision as buying any car should not be done for investment purposes because one accident could wipe that out. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated.

RS for the track. Won't regret it.

80% track - RS (and I’ve owned both).

I was contemplating a similar decision last year. Went with the RS, absolutely no regrets. If I had bought a GT3, I would have had RS envy. I personally like the racy looks of the RS and mainly use it for the track. I don't miss having a manual - the PDK still can be somewhat engaging if you want. At the speeds the RS achieves, I am glad I have one less thing (manual shifting) to worry about. Plenty of used, low mileage .1 RS's for sale now. Buy a CPO RS delivered late in the production cycle and you will still have 3-4 years of warranty left! GO with your emotions.

Cars are pretty much dead even on the track, stock. .2 was tested on stickier tires.
Zeperfs has more votes for .2
.1 has more room for bigger tire, is wider, may have slight price advantage currently.
If it's for the track, more or newer tire = faster; .1

RS without doubt.
The RS is a better Cars and Coffee car too.
The RS fits the tires that the GT3 can only dream of.
Money shifts in manual 991 GT3s cost close to $100,000. Not covered under warranty. PDK-S is fantastic, go to the Trakcar Worldwide Awesome YouTube channel, enjoy hours of well driven .1 RS around the planet.

I've owned both. If it's mostly a track car, the RS. If you plan on using the car more as a street car with occasional track use, the 991.2 GT3 manual. The 991.2 GT3 manual is the best street car I've ever owned. It offers that race car like experience and incredible excitement along with everyday usability.

As a counterpoint, Manual is really fun on the track (and tiny performance penalty)

Let's face it, we NEED both. A .2 Touring and a .2 RS would do just fine. I know this is not what the OP asked for, so just ignore me. Yeah you just wasted 15 seconds of your life reading my post but this is the pair I want to have in the garage.

I pondered the same thing and chose the RS for the same percentage of track/street duty. No regrets. Also preferred the big *** wing.

Thanks for all the comments....since I’m planning on keeping the manual 997.1s...then the pdk rs is the one based on the advice you have given.

Well, I just voted. Traded my 16 RS for a 19 GT3. The straight line performance is basically the same, has the new 500 hp motorsports engine, and if Ring time counts it's faster on the track. The suspension seems superior as well, more compliant and taught, especially on rebound. It just seems more planted to me. Not to mention it's a 3 year newer car, worth just as much as a decently equipped 16 RS.
