Default Pros or all cons on 991.1 RS with warranty engine?

Gents,

Some questions if I may...

Pros and Cons of 991.1 RS with engine replacement. I have my eye on a RS with good spec/price but has had the above. How big of issue is this at resale? I assume big? Does the car get a non-matching serial number engine? Does Porsche give a longer warranty on the new engine? Under what circumstances would you consider it or would you pass since there are plenty of cars to chose from?

Thanks in advance..

I wouldn't say it's a big deal, if you have documentation of an engine replacement under warranty that was performed by dealer. Very common among the 3.8's of that generation (less common for 4.0).

I think finding a clean 991.1 RS isn't really an issue. Prices have been ticking lower, even some nice PTS sat for sale at attractive levels.

I wouldn't think "big". In fact, a replacement motor may actually be preferable to some.

I’m very aware of the Gen 1 2014/15 standard GT3’s that had the warranty motors. I had a late 2015 that wasn’t effected. Can you refresh my memory on what was the issue on the few early 4.0 RS motors? I have been spending all my time on the 997 forum..

Yes, they are all over the place. This situation is advantageous for other reasons..

Some 4.0’s were exchanged for excessive oil consumption. And a small number had more dramatic failures. Overall, it’s been a reliable motor.

I would think having a replacement engine that provide a longer warranty then even the basic car warranty would be quite nice, depending upon your intended use.

Engine replacement is generally a positive sign unless you are looking at a garage queen collector, which then an original part is more desirable.

Porsche gives 2 years warranty on any part from date of installation, regardless of the warranty of the actual car. If the car isn't CPO, that would mean your RS will likely have an extra year of engine warranty more than other non CPO RS cars.

Thank you for the added info. I’m waiting for added dealer documentation and info.
