CDinSing send me what you are thinking....DWG file would work.

I'm going to fabricate something....

Why does it have to be so complicated?
Can it not just be a U shaped pipe mounted to the shock towers with legs mounted to the floor somehow?

Default Harness Bar Design

So I decided to remove the seats and carpet and install a Roll bar.

WOW,.....with easy access to the rear shelf, I changed my plans and want to design and build a Simple Harness Bar.

Below is a very preliminary, so NO flames please.

Does anyone have pictures of the 997 GT3 design? Mainly the end design?

Let me know what you think.

Hoping to distract a little....from the scary real world.

I finally got my brackets in.

Polished 36 inch Stainless Tube with 1/8 wall.

Test fit tonight.

I know you guys are generally well educated here, but IMO you should not run a fast car like GT3 with harnesses and racing seat without a roll cage. Other wise your neck will support the weight of the car. I have not heard that GT3s have good roll protection before it was mentioned here. I suggest if running a fast modern car get a roll cage, really no reason why not. Stay safe.

KBS911 and I did something similar. I have yet to install it in the RS. I would be keeping the airbag seats and 3 point for street, so this would be for track only. I know using a 6 pt pins me upright and in a roll over scenario if the roof collapses, I would be safer with a cage; so still debating.

I understand your point....
I have been going to DEs for 10 years and have always used a Hans and harness.
When I got my GT3, I bought a Simpson Hybrid 3-point harnesses.
I only use this car for 4-6 days a year...... Caged E46 for other track work.

I have been doing DEs since the late 80s, yeah pretty old, and have only seen one roll over scenario where the A pillar collapsed. That was a 458 spider at VIR that did multiple end over end rolls down the hill after losing his brakes off the back straight. I am sure there have been a few incidents in 911s, but the point is mentally I know the probability is low but not zero. I do about 8 events a year. Since I instruct I moved to a Hybrid neck restraint which ironically presents this issue. When I didn’t have that option, it was a no brainer to use a Hans and drop in the required half cage. With a hybrid the bar addition would just allow me to use a 6 pt that gives me better control and less fatigue, which indirectly leads to better safety. I have a spare carpet to cut so I guess I just need to install it.

Carmen

still using the bar for the 6 point harness?
I'm considering installing one on my RS.
