Does anyone with inside info know if Porsche has considered, or if the Special Wishes program, would allow the production of the GT3 Touring in the Targa chassis? This would be a very cool car in my opinion. Pardon me if it has been discussed before...Thanks Steve

I don't know if this is what your looking for...but maybe one option is having a mod shop like McChip-DKR take a Targa and mod it into what your looking for.

Can't speak for if Porsche has considered it, but it is unlikely. The Targa system is quite heavy, and probably does not fit the marketing strategy for the GT series.

Exclusive (they changed from Special Wishes in the 80s) could do it. The price would be exorbitant if the owner wanted to register the car for the road in Europe, Americas, etc. Since there is a change in bodystyle or drivetrain it requires individual certification. The importation and certification fees alone would cost probably the same as another GT3. Maybe a less if it can be approved for "Show & Display," which limits the mileage.

Importing anything not certified for the destination country is always expensive. There are exceptions for military and diplomats that allow them to drive a car for a short window, as well as exceptions for manufacturer test vehicles.

The EU is rolling in WLDP, a far more stringent certification process than before for EU-bound cars. Some other countries are rolling in a similar regulation.

Far easier to do it in the aftermarket. Modern regulations do not allow what was possible twenty, forty years ago. It would even still be illegal in some countries without certification of the modification.

But why isn't there a big T Turbo or Turbo S 991 Targa? There’s already Turbo convertibles and each of the individual models are cash cows of Exclusiv program extravagances such as leather covered fuse box covers

Thanks for the info so far. Seems like it would be a pretty cool package, but I agree it doesn't really fit the image of the GT line.

I don't think so because the Targa is AWD, I think the front axle and diff are necessary to counterbalance the heavy targa mechanism

I WISH we got a 992 targa turbo S. Would be one of the only 992s I'd really consider seriously.

I would think that would be a nice package. Sure it's a little heavier, but going through a mountain / forest road open top hearing the exhaust of the NA engine echoing off the trees, yes please! I'd prefer that package in a GT3 Touring over a Turbo / Turbo S package honestly. It's not really about the speed it's about the sound and the experience for me. Any of these cars are more than fast enough in my book.
