So with the nurburgring record going back to porsche in the "GT2rs MR", MR being for manthey racing are we watching the birth of a new badge like AMG, ///M, "RS", "SV", "LT"? All the other manufacturers have that extra badge, and given that porsche owns 51% of manthey I think in a few years you to can purchase your own Macan S MR.

Not so fast, Allegedly all MR did was aero (dive planes and a bigger wing) and 'Ring specific track setup...oh and a race seat. Not exactly "badge" worthy!! What good is a Nurburgring specific track setup at Spa or Watkins Glen or VIR... am I missing something?

Thats how all these performance divisions start. They make hardcore cars and slowly gets more and more diluted such as the current AMG and M car line ups.

I think this car also has KW V3 dampers that Manthey has done a special tune to, and of course Michelin Cup 2 Rs.
They have a lot of other great stuff like the extra water tank, wheels, roll bars etc.

The Manthey crew have done a great job with the racing dept and they are obviously well suited to the ring. But these set ups are real specific. I have a feeling the Ring setup for the 2rs is very well suited and prob a huge benefit but I would be surprised if a MR 3RS would make that big of a difference but I've been wrong a lot lately!

As for setup, the brilliance of a nurburgring setup is that it works great everywhere, street, ****ty tracks, fast tracks, slow tracks and it maintains goo street ability as the fastest setup can't too stiff or run an extreme alignment setup.

No, not w Porsche. It is a sports car brand and needs no brand "help" to build its credibility and has a closet full of historical badges to attach to cars for its hyper segmentation. AMG provided performance cred for MB, PAG doesn't need MR for that. SV and the rest cited are merely names of historical variants that had substance that are being abused / diluted today. The list is long
Audi S and soon RS
MB AMG and soon Black Series
BMW M and soon GTS, CSL, CRT, whatever
Porsche GTx, RS, R, T, Speedster, and so on

In 2017 Porsche sold 55k cars, of that 911s, cayman/boxsters were about 14k in sales. About 16% of total sales, certainly a significant portion of their business but pales in comparison to the sedans and SUVs. These badge packages are very profitable. And Porsche is here to make profit.
