Not necessarily "incognito" but there are those who like the idea of a GT3 but do not like the rear wing. I think that's totally justified.

I agree... But that's why I went PTS Green and put on Dundon race headers on my Touring. Didn't choose the Touring to be incognito or subtle. I simply wanted the 9k rpm engine and MT, no wing, with the clean 911 look this time. Personally, I think the Touring sounds way to muffled and quite with the stock exhaust (especially with the stock side mufflers). Like it can't breathe.

I almost picked up a 1800 miles 11' 4.0 RS 2 months ago for $395K. I ended up passing on it.

Was there anything wrong with the 7-4.0? If not, pm me.

Did you have to remap the ECU for the Dundon headers? And do you worry about warranty issues with the headers? I'm leaning towards fully uncorking mine too.

The new GT3 is incredible, but the experience of the RS 4.0 is like non other.

Yep. Felt that way when new, and still does.

(The same is true for CGT)

Mooty and anyone with seat time in both the 4.0 and 3.8... If there's no room in my budget for a 997.2 RS 4.0, is the 3.8 close substitute?

It was available for about 2 months with an asking price of $405k. Supposedly in collector condition. Not sure why it sat so long. Looked great on the pictures though. Hoehm Porsche, the closest dealer to the seller (where it might have been serviced before) said they would not do PPI on it. They said they might be able to CPO it for $3800, plus any parts necessary, plus $5k to sell it back to me. But it was weird how they would not do a PPI. I had a narrow time-frame to do the deal and ended up not having enough time to look for more places to do PPI at the time, so I passed. Having the Touring coming in, plus a 600LT on order, I didn't feel it would be the end of the world if I didn't buy it at the time. Last I checked it was sold. Probably for less than the $395k I negotiated.

The .2 GT3 ECU is more sensitive than the .1. Sport mode became unavailable after about 300 miles, then check engine light (P013F and P140B signal delayed from lean to rich), then is cleared itself (well, the check engine light went away and never came back on), then sport mode is available sometimes and sometimes not (still without check engine light). The only difference I see with our without sport mode is the rev matching feature. But the car sounds amazing either way. I have a a tool to read/clear the codes if I want. Fabspeed has a software available, but I'm exploring other options to eliminate this issue before spending $2300 on it. Warranty would really depend on your dealer.

if you like that old fashioned feeling of the real hydraulic steering and the man legs required to drive the car, yeah. I love the GT3RS 3.8- it's an awesome car. I think the specialness of that car can be summed up thusly:

beefy feeling pedals and tank like gearbox vs new one which is super boosted and almost feels artificially smooth/quick.
shorty gears which are fun as opposed to autobahn gears on the newer ones
easier to slip and slide because they have less mechanical grip.

are the graphics awesome? depends
is the car beat on? need to PPi
does it have front nose lift? that will potentially fail but there are various fixes

is it 160-250k depending on color and miles? yeah...

Thanks CJ. Seems like I'd be a great fit for a 997.2 RS. LMK if you ever come across a cream puff.

Lot of dealers won't do ppi anymore. Too much liability for too little money.
