Default 2015 GT3 - What should I know?

Planning my next vehicle and, after my recent track experience, I find my next move will be geared much more towards the track. What should I know/look for in a 2015 GT3?

I would want LWB seats which were available from Nov 14. Ext range tank is nice to have, SC has the track app. May be able to find one with a roll bar already. Get Schroth 6pt GT3 harness (and HANS). Budget for how to address the brake caliper piston pucks. Essex/AP brake upgrade solves a lot of issues. You'll need to get the tools and practice for swapping CL wheels- unless you have track support. Other than that just PPI and due diligence. Preferably full maintenance records. All .1GT3s have engine warranty for a total of 10yr or 120k mi. There are a couple of track build threads on here too. Good luck.

Will not race, but will travel Midwest to different tracks for PCA events. Will drive to events and not trailer. Car will not be a DD ever. Main question I have is what about the engine issues and replacement? Cannot seem to get my head around this issue or is it really a issue? Thanks

There is no real issue any longer. They all have an extended warranty now.

That part I understand but is there a certain VIN range that may have future issues or did Porsche correct it for all 2015's? Or I'm overthinking this, so just buy the darn thing and have fun? Thanks again.

I understand what forum is this.. But, allow me to be the dumb guy to come on here and ignore what you want and to tell you what you need..

Track prepped 997, lighter, smaller, manual transmission, that steering feel.. Get use to the old clunker while building skills, then trade for a 991 RS and mob.

Check the stickys at the top of the forum regarding the warranty extension and you will find a statement from Porsche that all 991.1 GT3s are covered, IIRC. My dealer confirmed this without having to reference any range of VINs.

IMHO, you will love the car on the track but may find it a handful unless you have plenty of previous track experience. I wouldn't want to start out in this car...

Porsche made running changes from E through F and G. In principle the later the build the lower the risk of failure. There was a thread on here with info on what was known and speculated on the changes. Can't recall the title, suggest try some searches. Porsche would have some insight but they are not disclosing. At this stage though the downside to failure is just inconvenience and potential loss of track time/cost. Failure on session 1 of a weekend would suck. The failure mode is excessive wear leading to misfire, it's not catastrophic/ fire risk. So best advice I think is the old adage to buy the newest best condition car you can afford.

One other thought, if considering a car with known track use, I would want documentation of track mileage (owner log or similar) or documentation of the required track maintenance for center locks, bearings, etc.

Yes. Avoid 14's they had the most issues. The rest is a crap shoot and any issues will get fixed so go find the car you like, at the price you are willing to pay and go get it. Nothing better than driving a GT3 on the track.

I don't think the 2014's had any different issues. ALL 2014's did have the engine replaced, either at port, at the factory, or after delivery. There are some with branded titles that should probably be avoided. Otherwise, the only issue with the 2014 cars is the full bucket seats were not available, so they all have sofa seats. Otherwise, their engine has the same 10 year warranty as the rest of the 991.1 generation.

So, if you don't mind sofa seats in a GT car, nothing wrong with a 2014.

Don't forget a thorough PPI if you haven't already bought the car
