Question Why did/didn't you spec the fire extinguisher?

I see a lot of cars with the fire extinguisher in them, and many people have it in the build. What is your rationale for adding or not adding this to your spec?

I wouldn’t add the OEM extinguisher because it is corrosive to the paint (or at least the old one was). I would get one aftermarket, and it is on the upgrade list.

A fire extinguisher saved my Defender 90 so I always have one in a car and this seemed like a cool way to do it for only 7x the cost of a Home Depot one.

It's cheap and it looks cool plus provides a safety factor.

My SA talked me into it and said he'd buy it if I didn't want it. My teenage daughter's hate it, as it's in the way of their short legs. Sorta looks cool.

Honestly FE is just there for a cool factor. Makes the car look more "racey"
I didn't get it b/c my car is specced as touring.

I just put it on my build since I saw it on a lot of other GT3's. Definitely has a nice race car look to it though....

If the GT3 engine goes up in flames, do you really want to save the car ? Engine catches fire, I'm getting as far away from the car as possible and don't want it after the fire is out. This is one reason we carry fire/theft coverage.

If you don’t intend to use it, the OEM option is a good deal for looks (if you’re into it). If you do intend to use one, I’d get a halon-based extinguisher that won’t leave white residue all over everything.

Thanks. I understand the cool factor especially in a GT car. And it's cheap. I just can't imagine a case where I'd really want to actually use it. Like a couple others, if the car is on fire, I'm getting out of the way and I don't want it back.

ordered since it is a cheap option
more expensive to retrofit
"cool" factor?

but if my car catches fire, I'm running the hell out of the car and calling my insurance for a write-off.....just saying

So here you go:
1. I don't have one but do think they look cool but are in the way. Also made me feel like a Fast-and-Furious poser.... But that's just me...

2. After the initial 2014 release/recall due to engine fires, the extinguisher probably sounded like a logical option for many.

3. Regular fire extinguisher will ruin paint, wiring, you name it. Get Halon or CO2
