My understanding is the 991.2 is covered. They have special maintenance called out for cars that are tracked in the manual. 718s and normal 911s aren't.
15's have a specific section in the manual for track use and maintenance schedule which states slick tires void warranty coverage . can't speak to 18 991.2 manual , anyone here ?
This topic comes up regularly. I'm not an expert but suggest review the warranty booklet included with your car. The booklet applies to all models and has been the same for a number of years. Look for Note 1 pg 10 which says racing or driving events may not be covered. The booklet Driving on the Race Circuit supplied with the 2014 model GT3 had a statement that if the maintenance requirements were not followed the warranty would be voided (paraphrase). Often owners refer to this as meaning there is an explicit track warranty. The language was removed for model year 2015 on.
In practice Porsche has been covering failures on tracked cars including engines and also GT4 transmissions. I've had a number of items covered on several cars including a Cayman R (not a GT car) and GT3. However when the ceramic "pucks" on my front caliper pistons cracked warranty coverage for caliper replacement was denied. The stated reason was that I had installed non oem pads (Ferodo DS1.11).
So, IMO the answer to whether the GT3 is covered for track use is "probably".
Please let us know if the warranty booklet language is changed if you check it.
I can’t find my manual but my recollection is the wording is somewhat ambiguous regarding whether track usage is covered.
That being said, as long as slicks aren’t used and the service recommendations in the track section of the manual are covered I would be very surprised if they didn’t cover track usage. Given how the car has been marketed it could certainly result in some bad publicity for Porsche if they denied a claim because of track usage.
"Race Circuit Driving" page 180 - 191. I skipped all the race prep inspection stuff. Additional maintenance to be in compliance with warranty is engine oil every 3000mi of track driving and 6000mi for CL maintenance.
They measure 6000mi relative to 2.5x Nurburgring 24 Hour races, so pretty much built bulletproof for track use.
All reasonable requests are honoured, even outside warranty. I asked the head mechanic at my local garage how far they would go and he said it's assessed case by case. Also said it makes a big difference how you maintain your car (e.g. frequent oils changes if even not necessary per service schedule). Having a good relationship with your garage and often swallowing their outrageous pricing on mundane stuff definitely makes a difference too.
