Would love to experience a 4.0 7RS and drive one or get some quality seat time in one to make an informed choice. For a track maybe the 4.0 is better experience, but for my intended use of daily driving and weekend drives I would take my incoming .2 for modern tech/amenities/comfort/less stress over value/resale/etc... So which is the better car is very subjective, for me its the .2, for others I am sure the 4.0.
track: 991
weekend: 997RS4.0

Different cars and with different strong points. 991 biggest points would be tech, chassis, engine and a more friendly gearbox. The cons, weight and the inevitable synthetic feel (even tho its small) of the rws and steering.
The 997 gt3 has 'ligthness' and steering but its not a big gap. Cons everything else. The 997.2 rs however, is a better contestant especially given the prices.
My only gripe with the new 991.2 gt3 is the weight and to be honest in a near future(in market pov) it will be the biggest selling point of a car of this last decade as well as rawness/challange to drive, given how fat cars are and will be getting in a near future. Power will become a bit boring after a while especially with these great tc systems and easiness of use and I can't see how car people with half a ball won't search for a challanging car and light rather than a heavy powerhouse.
But then again, I think the 996 gt2 (with a good sorted suspension and a couple of very basic/light inducing mods) is the best experience available to anyone with the money.

"Put really simply, the 997 is the best occasional car, the one to be enjoyed most on your favourite B-roads. It's narrow, nimble, and still a joyous mix of new tech and old thrills. "
Depends on how you will be using the car. As a daily driver, 991 - much more comfy.

Which of the 997-991 generation GT cars will stand out in 20 years? I think most agree the 997RS 4.0 will always remain a legend. But looking at the rest of the line up, the only other car that is beginning to stand on its own is the 991.2 GT3 with a manual. This will remain especially true if the 992 goes turbo. The other 991 generation GT cars have amazing performance, but none have a manual, and only one (the 991.2 RS) will have this cherry of an engine. The 991.2 GT3 manual is the only complete package.
So could it be that the 991.2 GT3 manual becomes the favorite 20 years from now? Time will tell.

Well, actually the 4.0rs was faster than the 991.1gt3 in the SportAuto supertest laps at the Nurburgring and Hockenheim. And on a far inferior tyre as well at the time. So I wouldn't be so quick to proclaim the 991 is an improvement in everybway and 'would dominate' the older car on track...
