Ah right. Scanned to quick. rats.... Car prices going up!

Industrial action began earlier in the week, after talks between the union and employers failed last weekend. IG Metall, which represents 3.9 million manufacturing workers, is seeking a 6% wage increase over 12 months and the right to reduce hours. For workers who cut their hours to care for children or the elderly, the union also wants a subsidy to partially offset lost pay.

Well the good news if there is some is that they strike differently in Europe than they do in the US. If that was here the line would be shut down until the issue was resolved. At least there they stage a 24 hour strike and then go back to work while negotiations continue. May be more of these short term strikes coming until a resolution is reached.

The company I work for buys heavy equipment from a factory in Germany. Production is shut down today, but we are hoping to resume Monday. Negotiations to follow.

The thing is, a lot of the workers actually want to work overtime to increase their pay, but the union will not let them. The union wants to hire more workers; however, there is an acute shortage of skilled workers in Southern Germany at the moment.

I was told the part to get my car back on track, was not available in the US and couldn't ship from Germany because of the strike.

Anyway, this brings back memories. I had a factory delivery scheduled for a Carrera in June 1984 but IG Metal went on strike and shut down Porsche production. It was too late to cancel our first ever trip to Europe so I ended up renting a BMW 316. By the end of our two weeks we returned to a reopened factory and were able to take the tour. Afterwards, I asked if my car had been produced and after a check and a short delay they brought it around and parked it for me to inspect, so that was pretty cool. Kept that car for 15 years; wish I still had it.

My car completion date was today, 2/02. I wonder if this will result in another delay. Man, I don't think ill survive the ulcer from a delay!

Porsche recently announced the GT3 model will not be made in model year 2019 for emission reasons, meaning an earlier than planned conclusion. While adding more 2018 capacity to achieve the sum total seemed the solution, this labor stoppage halts the production line which has a ripple effect. End result supply numbers are in jeopardy, demand is high and prices may push even further.

OTOH... I watch and don't see those GT3's (advertised with $25k over) selling.

GT2RS is gonna have a heavy ADM - $300k from NJ was the first I heard and now this production delay will only cause ridiculous prices to balloon

The strike will almost certainly be short term. Any affect on values, if it occurs at all due to a very temporary interruption of supply, will be a tiny blip on the radar. I guess we'll see....

Just enjoy the exquisite torture of anticipation. Think of it as Groundhog day of Christmas Eve!

The strike will be resolved shortly.

This is interesting. I would think Porsche has a plan to build X number of cars to complete the 2018 model line and have contracted with the subs for the amount of components they need. Makes me wonder if any delays from the strike will just result in a couple of additional days of production to complete said X number of cars or if they would actually build less as the end result?
