So am I correct in saying an R essentially just sold for $306K? or in this world of high end car auctions, it's the hammer price of $340k? Or the net price $379k?

Hammer Price gives you everything, and you can set alerts when lots are coming, keep track of favourites etc. Very good, and normally updates result a few seconds quicker than the ‘live’ video feeds.
Oh yeah, be careful with the video - it's on some kind of delay and you can miss the bid. Hint: Refresh the browser to shorten the delay between the action and video.

Here's the quick and dirty ^

Buyer's fee 12% on first $250; 10% over
Seller's fee 10% (might be negotiated lower)

$73k to RM Sotheby's: Not a bad gross! lol Anyone want to start an auction house?

Hold up. So the total cost of this auction to both buyer and seller was $63,000? Never realized it was so costly to sell at auction. Seems to be a suboptimal venue in this particular case.

Yes you should check Mecum’s numbers too, it’s the price to pay to have that kind of exposure.
Would be cool if someone that uses auctions houses would chime in

It can be sub-optimal but this car was at no reserve and it sold so seller knows he was getting out.
probably not on this lot size, but seller fees can be negotiated.
i sold 918 last year and I got worldwide exposure and paid no fees til it exceeded an agreed minimum amount. Was happy with outcome and net was more than I would have got elsewhere. ( and might not have sold an 8000 mile car quickly).

Strange as it seems, buyers get carried away and forget the fees on top. That’s why the prices are always stated net - to make them seem cheaper!

They are sucking up way too much of the value. 10% TOTAL would be expensive but fair, ~20% seems more like robbery. But I could see how it would make sense for 'rare' or one-off types.

Not exactly.

It means that if you owned this R (and were smart enough not to sell it through an auction) someone was willing to pay $379k for it.
Conversely, if you were looking for this R (and bought it outside of auction), there was a seller out there willing to take $306k for it.

So it really depends how you look at it, but the market is usually set at what more than one person is willing to pay for something, because over multiple sales is borne an average, rather than an outlier owner who either doesn't know how to sell a car or has personal reasons to sell quickly.

I honestly don't mean this because I own an R, but this auction should not be of any comfort to those who are hoping that R prices for low mileage correctly specced cars will drop further ... if anything they have stayed flat or even ticked up a smidgen.

On the other hand that silver Canadian car that Atlantis is selling is a disastrous spec, and they probably should have taken the $275k they were offered on BaT. Maybe they'll manage to get more for it in time but it just goes to show you how incredible the difference is between a car with the right options vs one that lacks them, like to the tune of almost $100k difference.

There are a fair number of low mileage 911Rs available for ~ $350k that aren't selling, so FMV to me is somewhere between $290k - $330k. It's not $379k unless you really want it and don't care about $$$.

That action on BaT you are referring to had over 46,000 views & over 1,300 watchers. Market said it's worth $275K (at that time) primarily due to the points you mentioned above.

Jun 27 at 4:52 PM Dnovack 1,278: Seller missed an opportunity to cut his losses on this car. When these first came out, the local dealer had two on consignment for around $600,000. Last summer, i was aware of one that sold locally for $450,000 and was resold 6 months later for around $350,000.
Jun 28 at 9:39 AM andial 148: @ODK You should have gone for the superquant car on RL. It was flipped by Chicago Motor Cars and is now the cheapest publicly available R. It went for less than 300M for a good example.
Jun 28 at 9:40 AM andial 148: @amg_usa was greedy and should have been happy w/ the high bid.
Jun 28 at 3:07 PM Scott_S 4,982: @andial- don’t forget the 8 on ebay (31 miles to 1800 miles).

I agree, both the buyer and seller of this car seem to be outliers who quite frankly deserve each other.
When I bought my white one I was offered an almost identical one to this one with 100 miles for $350k and passed.
So whomever bought this car could have paid that much instead of what they just paid ... at least back in May.

That's probably a $345k car give or take $5k ... but who knows with these things, there are so few of them that the mean can swing by $10k with each purchase.

That said, there's no taking away from the fact that someone was willing to be $380k out of pocket for this R, whatever that means.

The 911R will increase the day there are no more NA cars. That is coming. $300-$325k is good. If you can afford it..buy it. Drive it and you'll not regret.

I agree. The days of hybrid, pure electric, are here, and soon autonomous cars will be here too before we truly recognize it.

Naturally Aspirated, stick shift, it is all pure fun and driving engagement.

Drive safe,
