I’ve said it before: in 2028 some magazine (assuming they are still around) will get the best 911s together to do a drive-off. 2.7 RS, 3.6 Turbo, 993 GT2, various other GT3s and GT2s, etc, the goal being to try and decide which is the best driver’s 911 ever. Having driven quite a few of those cars my money is on the 997 RS 4.0 to win that test- quintessential, old yet new, just the right 911 flaws. Those who really drive it will know...

I suspect the R won’t make it into the same paragraph- one can argue it’s already been eclipsed for this generation’s driving experience. Rarity for its own sake is pointless- it’s all about the experience at the end of the day. Or at least it will be if I’m writing it

I don't even think the GT3T is a current classic.

Humm. Been a while since I drove a 3.8, never drove a 4.0 (I am an idiot for not buying one when offered), but the air cooled cars are just better to me. Probably because I don’t track and I like the smaller form and interior.

I want a CTR2. I don’t care if it has a RUF VIN, I rather it not so I can afford to drive it.

I have to say, throughout all the discussions on value, driving feel, limited edition, mezger vs 9a1.. etc etc.. there is ONE car which receives unwavering praise and seems to come out at the top, and that's the 997RS4.0.

Now I'm really curious.. I wonder if Mooty can spare a passenger seat for a short demo ride.. what makes this car so special?

When I'm finished driving it, I'm going to give it away. That way I don't care about value now or value then. Its a liberating thought.

997 RS 4.0 remains my favorite factory 911, certainly in the modern era. But I have to say the drive in the GT3 Touring finally had me wondering. Only way to know is to do a proper road test on proper roads. Could not care less about the lap times—it's all about the experience, and the GT3 Touring really surprised me. And I thought I had the measure of the 991.2 GT3 MT last summer...

Some say the engine, but those who really drive one know: It's the handling refinements over the 997.2 RS.

I’ll bring the Touring, mooty can drive my car this time. As long as he writes the article...

(Good luck with those edits)

Yep buy 5 or 6, bubble wrap them and park them in a warehouse and then go drive a Prius.

touring might be collectible IF porsche never makes another version. 997 gt3 seemed collectible as the last stick shift gt3 but now theres a new stick sift gt3 thats better in every way. same will hold for gt2rs. insane imo to pay 100k above sticker for it when there will just be another better faster version in few years. cgt and 918 are collectible bc they are one and done models. there is no better future version coming.

people ask why values for bmw z8 are skyrocketing. its the same reason. z8 is a one off model that isnt replaced like a m3 is. same for touring.

As was pointed out, 991 is huge volume in the collector car world. And there may actually be fewer Tourings in the end...
