Default Considering buying a GT3 RS

Without getting into long details, I might be coming into some "won" funds. Thinking about adding another toy to the garage. Thinking about a GT3 RS.
I haven't been following the market so would love an education. Do I want to go for a 2016 or save the money and go 2011?
In a practical sense, how are they similar and different?

I would be more inclined to go H box than PDK. I do like some basic comfort features like being able to make a phone call or stream audio from my phone.

Love to hear some thoughts... What is the best car/value in the market?

If you want some degree of comfort go 991 with sofa seats. That car will be PDK of course, not manual. The 997.2 is not a creature comforts car. Very little sound deadening, heavy clutch, bluetooth calls require yelling, etc. Perhaps an RS isn't really the ideal choice. You might be better off with a 991.1 GT3 which people seem to really enjoy as a DD.

Your going to get lots of opinions but I like the '16 myself - feels refined - crisp - probably a little more idiot proof. The PDK is so fast/smooth - more creature comforts. I believe others will say the '11 is the car you have to drive - more driver input - and a rougher drive around town. Way better experts on here then me but I love the '16. Some will likely ask how much you plan on tracking either car...be prepared for lots of opinions. All good stuff on the way from the RLer's

It's probably useful to add, this won't be my DD. I'm adding it to my little stable.

Current garage: (not including the DD)
1997 911 C2S 6spd
2012 R8 V10 Spyder 6spd

So maybe I might enjoy the PDK. I've never owned one. But when I pull up the pictures of the 2016 vehicles and I see that:
P
R
N
D
--- It just kinda kills my excitement. Then I open up a pic of a 2011 and see the manual and smile. I know the actual driving of the PDK would be enjoyable. I think I'm just stubborn and committed to thinking, "I know how to drive a stick so I should."

Don't track much anymore. Haven't been to the track in nearly 10 years to be honest but used to race Skip Barber regional series and instruct at lapping days.

I went from a 997 TT 6spd to a 991 GT3 PDK to a 991 RS. I can truly say that I do not miss the 6 spd at all. The RS is a beast!

Go with your gut

i know how to drive a stick also.and love the connected feeling. (Drove a tanker for about 8 years of my life). But yet i prefer not to. But then again im in NYC. Stick is awesome in my head on the empty backroads I imagine being on. Reality is traffic and lots of it. And i love not getting leg cramps from playing with that 3rd pedal in traffic

The 991 GT3 RS is awesome . you won't be disappointed .
PDK is fast and can be very engaging in controlling the balance of this missile. !!!

I have both in the garage. If I had to choose 1 - I would buy the 997.2 right now. Amazing drivetrain, mezger engine, etc.

The 991.2 rs will likely be announced in spring. When it is, the rush to buy them will be amazing, and everyone will trade in 991.1 rs.

you won't like it if you keep it in D, buy one with buckets and manually shift it with the paddles like its supposed be done, then it will engage and shifter faster than you can imagine, lots of nosies and mechanical sounds with an intense interface, you'll love it, Im partial to UV, other like LO, if you get silver or white add martini decals, if you get PTS, Im not a big fan, everyone knows "real" RS colors

Most people wont be able to get a 991.2 rs. So I doubt there will be a change in the availability of the .1rs's more then there are currently.
I say if you want an RS, buy one now.

When Rs.2 is 300k after ADM or more watch RS.1 prices firm right up to 250k.

+1 for 2016 RS. Given your stable, mix it up with a vehicle with the best PDK on the market. If in doubt, go and have a decent drive in one and then come back....

With that garage, it would be the 991 for me. I know how to drive a manual properly, and have a few, but the PDK and the balance that it allows you to feel with all four limbs in play (hands at 2.45 and a foot on each pedal) is fabulous. I have a 991 RS and absolutely love it. I wouldn’t swap it for a manual version - no amount of persuasion would make me.

997.2 RS is a very raw car with a heavy clutch and a LW flywheel. '16RS is also raw but much easier to live with. I personally prefer the '16RS. In addition I prefer the look of the '16. YMMV>
