As much as I'd like that to happen, I highly doubt they'd do that. I'm betting they'll throw in an uprated version of the old 3.8L engine from the 991.1. I also wouldn't be surprised if they threw a turbo-4 in the Spyder, and left the GT4 NA.

Yeah, seems a bit far fetched, although the old 3.8 is history and doubt they would put $$ into it for one model. They need to crank out the 4.0, so we will see. Makes sense to share it among models?? A slightly detuned one?

3.8 is a great engine, one with power kit would be perfect for Spyder and a much more logical choice. HP bump of about 50 much more in line for an upgrade with no investment needed. They will not and should not bastardize the 4.0, It will more likely be used in the new RS than Spyder

^ who knows what they'll end up doing really. after the whole pdk thing with the 991.1 gt3 and walking that back with the .2, I really wouldn't put it past them to throw the turbo-4 in both the spyder and gt4, and just feed us some turbo is the future crap.

I have been reading and thinking about this since announced earlier today. Very interesting proposition. If I can’t get a 991.2 gt3 and the spyder actually has the 4.0 and it revs to 9,000... I might try to get one of these. But...
1) Would they really detune it to ~420hp like the articles are saying? If so it makes more sense to use a 3.8L doesn’t it? Seems it would be a waste of engine potential and capacity to use the 4L for 420hp. And if they did detune would they also lower the redline?
2) Can they really put the 4L engine with lets say 450-475hp and a 9000 redline in the spyder without having to increase its weight by having to add bigger supporting components and/or making it wider? They would have to preseve its already excellent balance. If so this would significantly increase the price and production difficulty of the car.

State of "journalism" in our time. They also said .2 GTS would be NA, GT4 would come w/ detuned GT3 engine..........

I’ve been saying for some time that if I were running the show I’d drop a short-stroke version of the 991.2 GT3 engine into the GT4. You don’t simply want to de-tune the 4.0, as the resulting power curve wouldn’t give you the type of delivery you’re after without serious gaming. Instead a 3.4 or 3.6 using a short-stroke crank would be the ticket. $.02

Funny thing is, didn't AP make those comments almost a year ago? I recall reading that a while back, so I hope Autocar or whomever has something else other than those comments to hang their conclusion of the 4L on.

This would be the talked about GT3 Convertible - by a different name. Spyder would probably forgo the GT suspension would be my guess, like the first time around.
I'm seriously considering switching from a Touring to a Spyder. Lots of time to ponder.
