... one advantage of being acknowledged as one of the countries with the highest premium P cars .. is that we got some 40 R's with a population of circa 24 million. The touring may even end up less numbers here in country funnily enough.

Agreed - I got the number-matching (to our car) English and German versions. A great keepsake, and a very good read (in English) Definitely recommended.

I have not driven a 2018 GT3. But i have plenty of time in the 2016 RS and I can say that my radio delete R is a better twisty road car (the way I like to drive it) or hooligan car than the RS is. Therefore it is more fun. The RS is definitely faster on track. The R has the best manual gearbox. The RS has the best PDK gearbox.

A touring GT3 - with the debate over xyz facts and lap times or drag times or collector status blah blah...that's going to be compared to the 2018 GT3, and 2019 RS and 2020 992 etc.

Fair or not, the R is going to get compared to the 73RS, the 964Rs, 993 RS, 997 4.0, etc. Because it's intent was to be a throwback. Well executed by the way!

The 911 R is the new "997 sport classic" to some guys and the new 73 Rs to others and the GTS++ to some guys. It's not a 250 GTO.

Don't be mad at those of us that drive our 911R's. We are using as Frank and Andy P intended. "We just living life"

Be mad all you want at the flipper vip guys. They hoarded, they took your car.
Very well said. I have a 991 RS and 991 R and they are very different cars. As CJ says, the RS is very planted, very easy to pin into a corner on a canyon or on a track. The R is somewhat less planted, more "fun" and unpredictable, and more of a hot rod (or hooligan car, as CJ referenced), with the same engine, different gearbox, different wheels/tires. The R feels more lively, if that makes sense. Also, the experience offers an aural and visceral difference to the RS. The LWFW also adds to the experience, and makes it very unique in the 991 lineup (and modern Porsche lineup). I grab the keys to one or the other depending on where I am going and what the desired experience is. I skipped my 991.2 GT3 allocation as I felt it would be duplicative and do not see selling either the R or RS for a very long time, if ever. Love both cars and all that they offer (and the smile they bring to my face).
Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I too have a GT2RS coming...plan is to keep my GT3RS along with it - if the driving experiences are different enough to my driving circumstances. But running out of room, like many people...have to find a larger warehouse soon...

Had a chance this morning to try out the new 991.2 GT3 manual and PDK, back to back with the 911R. Very illuminating. Definitely could tell the differences pretty easily. The tuning of the GT3 feels very much more track-oriented, and the 911R very much for the street, and definitely more of a hot rod. In comparison, the GT3 felt a bit more sedate and numb, with the LWFW making a big, big difference to the feel of the cars...both iterations of the GT3 were great, but this 2 hour exercise confirmed that it was a good decision for me to cancel my GT3 allocation. I also noted that the 991.2 GT3 PDK versus my 991.1 GT3RS perform very differently (did not bring RS with me, but drove it yesterday). My thoughts are that the RS is very, very different; it feels much more planted than the GT3 and much more special as a package. The GT3 was terrific, but once you have enjoyed the RS differences in feel and stance, it is hard to be overwhelmed by the narrower body. I am sure the GT3 is faster on a track, but driving on the street I did not notice...I also confirmed that the GT3 RS should be in our collection for a while. Really amazing cars, all, but I am very happy with my picks.
Look for the upcoming head to head on the new Motor Trend GT3 reviews...they pitted a manual versus PDK car on the track and the results will surprise!
Jeff
