"In typical German fashion (they are efficient!)..."

Don't know what it is, but as a German-American, the attribute runs deep. One item of curiosity -- if it came up -- is why some GT3s smoke on start up and some do not. Any relationship to the issue?

Again, congratulations to current (and future) owners of the 991.1 GT3. It's the most fun on 4 wheels, at least until my 991.2 GT3 arrives.

So no more Dundon pressure monitoring & grooved followers in-garage development crap?

I don't have my GT3 anymore, but still big thanks to all who contributed to this great outcome.
With all the negativity we get surrounded with on a min by min basis, this confirms my long held belief, passed on to me by my dad, that if you treat people with dignity, they usually respond in a positive way

We discussed smoky start gt3s at length with Dr Walliser. He said that's not a related problem and the rings and seals used in newer cars seems to have solved this issue. He asked me if my RS ever smoked, which it hasn't. However both my 991.1 gt3's did smoke. He also said the engine break-in could likely have an effect on smoking as would angle of parking.

As for break in. He said all GT engines are run on the bench before installation. However he said 800 miles is prudent to break in the rest of the car. (Tranny, diff, etc )

Really fantastic news. I always thought a warranty extension for this exact issue would likely be the solution. Now all those silly folks who "would never touch a '14 GT3" can eat a little crow

Interesting! I adhered to recommended break-in on my 2015 GT3 and it never smoked (avoided parking at an angle as well).

Hard to tell and yes they've been investigating this issue for a long time. But only recently did they finish engineering and testing the solution. It took thousands of hours of testing to resolve this. They made it clear it took them months to isolate and understand the problem and then they had to actually engineer and test the fix.

Think about how many people jumped ship long before even the original warranty expired, despite Porsche taking good care of every single owner who had an engine issue (as far as I know - I never heard any case otherwise).

This result is great for 991.1 GT3 owners, but also for anyone else considering a new GT car. Makes you feel as though they won't leave us out in the cold if some new issue comes to pass

Exactly. Speaks volumes for Porsche, regardless of model.

Agreed. Porsche isn't just a company selling products in order to make profits. It takes a rare combination of engineering expertise and appreciation for the ingredients of passion to make cars like these. Such a company will be justly proud and care a lot about their reputation. Not taking care of customers would not only be bad for business, but against the ethos of people like Andreas Preuninger and Frank Walliser.

Porsche isn't perfect - and never will be - but they're definitely great. No other car company could cause me to spend this much time in a forum talking about their cars.

COG guys & Macca,
Congrats on a job WELL DONE, and the fortitude to ignore the nay-sayers!
And, Rob love your quote "an RS is an RS". I concur.

This is an outstanding outcome world wide, whether or not it comes from COG interventions and whatever Porsche's motivations. Great peace of mind and a real demonstration of commitment to GT drivers
