the whole BOP thing is crazy:
i was told:
Aston Martin is the lightest - 65kg lighter as the RSR + a 1,5l bigger engine. Also a bigger tank.
Ferrari is alowed to drive a 0,35bar higher boost than Ford...
tricky to identify the real winner. but for the entertainment and keeping budgets "moderate" such a BOP is madatory.
i guess also that winners of last year(s) are a bit more restricted as others - but lets not believe in this.

The RSR is the best sounding car in the entire field. The worst could be the 488
LMP1 is bonkers. Porsche is grumbling that Toyota is using illegal diffuser stuff in their cars. Toyota just has a bunch more top end power down the straights and VMax about 15km/h higher.
LMP2 is bananas fast. They're doing times closes enough to the old Audi LMP1 cars that it is almost comical.

So how does Toyota get the straight line shove AND the downforce through the Porsche curves in the final sector... blown diffuser?

I'd like to look at the weightings in the software simulations that are used to define BOP - I'm pretty sure it can be gamed but thats always been the way.
The aim of BOP is to keep cars within 0.3s of one another over a lap or thereabouts - it means, all else being equal, the team with the best/most savvy race engineers wins.......
^^^sour grapes - Toyota put a huge effort into the 2.4 AND batteries + wind tunnel = win. In contrast, it appears that Porsche may give up on LMP1.............not saying they wont try to win

Another word around here is that Toyota had an extremely clean trip with no traffic. While there maybe some truth to that it looks like the 919s could not match regardless.
The RSR looks more competitive, but IMHO there seems to be a lot of sandbagging going on.

Free practice this morning did not result in better news for our cars. The Toyotas continue to dominate by just less than two seconds per lap. While the RSRs appear somewhat more competitive, Ford GT at the head of the field.

Burning Brakes
The Toyotas are certainly impressive. They were also quite impressive last year. It came down to the final lap. The point is, LeMans is a 24 hour race and ANYTHING can happen, mechanical failures, accident carnage, tire issues, bad pit strategy. Heck over the course of 24 hours, who knows, someone might even drive off the track and down the road to get a crescent and a Cappuccino! Anything can happen! Over the years, there have been many times where Porsche was not the fastest car on the track, but outlasted the rest of the field. I'm hoping this is another one of those years!

Porsche RSR just got weight BOP in their favor for morning warm up.
