What purchase history gives you the clout to order a new GT car from your dealer?

Leased a 991.1 C2 cab, then leased to owned a 991.1 C2 GTS cab. I am not yet guaranteed an allotment for a 991.2 GT3 but my dealership is very confident they will be able to get me an allotment with a couple catches: it may be a year (which I am fine with as I want MT and a PTS color, both of which are coming later in the production cycle) and I will likely have to pay a $15,000 premium over sticker (although when the time comes, I am going to see if I can get that down; I've already gotten it down from $25k to $15k).

Well, the Baltimore market is a completely different market than California. It might as well be a different planet.
My dealer is relatively "young." I bought my 2nd (2006 C4S) and 3rd (2009 C4S) from a small (a corner of an Audi dealership), family owned, local dealership. Shortly after I took delivery of the 2009, they sold the franchise to one of the large Auto Groups. So, I was "sold" with the franchise. I took my C4S to the dealership for everything - maintenance, tires, etc. I put over 107k miles on that car. So, by the time the 991 GT3 was "announced," I'd spent more than a couple $ at the service department and was a familiar face to everyone. I started out 3rd on their list for a 991.1 GT3. The two ahead of me wanted PTS. So, I ended up with their first allocation. That car was just pulling into the port, in RI, when the stop sale was announced.
I've had that 991.1 GT3 for very nearly 50k miles (it will roll over 50k this week). I've had all of my maintenance and repair done by the dealer, including buying my winter wheel/tire set and the paint protection film. So, Over the last 3 years, about $27K has gone through the service department. That doesn't include the warranty work that they've been reimbursed by Porsche for (I got the new heads at 36K and had a devil of a time with the secondary air system emission controls). They even put my Fab Speed Mini-Maxflows on for me (and reinstalled the factory primary when we were fighting the emission control fault).
Their first two 991.2 GT3s went to 918 customers. The next one goes to a customer who owns a 991.1 GT3 and a 991.1 GT3 RS (both PTS). My SA is guessing that he'll pass on that so I'll get their next allocation when it comes in October (or whenever). It will be at sticker. Actually, the Auto Group gives you a new car credit for every $ you spend in the service department. I've been told that they'll apply that to my 991.2 GT3 so I'll actually be under sticker

I think I received the fourth GT4 from my dealer at MSRP, this was my first new Porsche, the dealer has been great. Went back and purchased a CPO Boxster for a DD about a year later and also a used VW EOS for my son a few months after that. We also traded in a couple of late model used "non-P" cars for a variety of reasons following the GT4 purchase. So I would say that the dealer earned my business
I suspect I will receive a 991.2/3 allocation next year.

Same here. I'd never bought a Porsche before from anyone, new or used. I just picked up the phone and called the dealership 2 days after the GT4 was officially announced. I still wasn't sure I wanted one, but I figured I may as well keep my options open. They took a $1K deposit and made me #20 on their list, which ended up giving me a November 2015 build, and they sold it to me at MSRP because they have a policy of not selling over sticker, ever. They also provided a fantastic experience from initial contact to delivery. I didn't find out until later that this dealership is pretty beloved among Porsche enthusiasts for both sales and service. That said, they practically never sell hot cars to out-of-state purchasers, or so I was told.

Bought a 996 C2 in 1999 and 2001. Since that time, I purchased a used 997 gt3 rs used from someone else. Also bought a 991.1 gt3 elsewhere when my local dealer couldnt get one in 2015. Over the years, I participated in many dealer sponsored events, had my cars serviced there as well. I was then offered to buy a 991 gt3 rs because they know I'm a diehard Porsche guy (since 13 years old) , but I was required to wait 6 months before I could pick it up ( car was was Hurley's 918 program car). I immediately expressed an interest in the 991.2 gt3.
I believe, as others have stated, that it is about relationships over the years. A commitment and love for the brand and being involved with the dealer is key, at least in my experience.

was at Project One unveilling past two days in Berlin, and sat at dinner with some european AMG & Porsche dealers. they are appalled by what happens here in the US, they think it's terrible for business what dealers are doing, but also, what customers are doing in the flipping game. I asked how they handle their lists and the spanish and french dealer principals told me the following.
-whoever comes to place their desposit once the car has been announced, gets the spot. They try to call their good customers if they hear of an upcoming car being announced to give them a head's up, but generally, anyone local who places a deposit gets a final spot in line. If they find that someone has flipped a car, they black-list them.
While it seems to me that they have a lot less business than US dealers do, and so the issue of lists and flipping is less apparent, they all agreed that dealers should never upcharge on cars as it ruins their relationships and reputations. This came from dealer principals directly.

In Los Angeles, CA - NONE, ZERO...prior relationships don't matter.
993 Turbo, 996 Turbo, 996 GT3, Cayenne Turbo, Carrera GT, 997.1 GT3 RS, 997.2 GT3 RS, 991.1 S, 991.1 GTS, GT4, Macan GTS...that's 11 Porsches? Plus, 8 Audis and cars of various brands, not to mention the many referrals.
And the relationship stops there when the GM wanted $50,000 over MSRP for a 991.1 GT3 RS. Actually, we gave them a second and third chance by getting the Macan GTS and GT4. However, we were still told, CAN'T "gift" you a GT3 RS or give it away at MSRP or so the GM says. Uh huh. And I'm talking about you Rusnak/Pasadena Porsche and the Rusnak Auto Group. 22 year relationship down the toilet just like that. Poof!

I have been buying Porsche Product for the past 35 years. The list of cars that I have owned over this time is to long to list. Each and every one has been put back into the supplying dealer, when it comes to change.
As an example I have brought the Following over the past 24 Months.
918
3 X Cayenne's , both LHD and RHD
2 X 991 Targa
3 x 991 Turbo S
1 Macan
2 x 991 GT3, LHD and RHD
1 x 991 R.
1 x 991 GT3RS
1 x GT4
1 x 991.2 GT3 on order
1x 991.2 GTS PTS on order.
I currently own 6 Porsche cars
Despite owning 19 X 911 Turbo cars over the past 35 years, this in addition to all the other 911s, Boxsters, Cayenne's GT cars etc I am still awaiting confirmation that I can have a 991 Turbo S LE. Even after placing an order last Nov.
