I'm torn because I would like the pillars and doors with alcantara but then I have to do door tops and dash with leather which I don't want. I'm sure it streamlines the production process but the choice of all alcantara would be a nice addition to the offering and it looks like I'm not the only one.

I just asked my dealer if I could order alcantara upper and lower dash. He said no. I would order that plus carbon fiber everywhere.

That's unfortunate. It sounds like we're after similar interiors here. I've been thinking of how to address the interior I would like post delivery.

Seat inserts are easy enough to remove, alter and replace but these specific interior pieces (dash and door tops) do not feel as easy to address aftermarket. I'm guessing the dashboard would probably need to be removed in order to do a custom install of alcantara. The upper portion of the door seems like it may possibly require removal of the entire door card. In either case, I wouldn't feel comfortable pulling apart any brand new car. It seems like a perfect opportunity to unknowingly pinch a cable, scratch some part of the interior, introduce a different texture or color material or worst of all - end up with a rattle. For me, it's just too many variables to add custom alcantara to these interior components.

Yes, very worthwhile Eduardo, thanks!
I almost forgive you for saying my eyes are lying to me when I wrote that Grey Black 7A1 has sparse metallic content. :)
This almost shows what I see;

My Audi has proper black stitch leather on the dashboard and doors.
I couldn't bring myself to order an RS 7 that does without, a six figure car requires it in my opinion, hopefully we'll see it on the next generation or I'll just stick with the 8 series.

I did some more research on the supposed leather is lighter than vinyl thing.
This video at 4:16 shows that the leather is applied over a foam dashboard core, so it looks like the same thickness of vinyl would be molded over the core when not specifying leather.
Even so, leather is fairly dense, and I wouldn't think that the same volume of vinyl would be heavier.

I believe the leather coated dash could be lighter. I have also seen the above video. The problem is we don't know the composition of the vinyl coated dash.

Two owners (one vinyl dash, one leather dash) need to pull off their dashes for weighing. I will provide the scale.

Interesting, I could see the leather dash being slightly lighter, that looked like fairly thin leather and vinyl is pretty heavy.

I'd imagine most of the exclusive leather extras are heavier though, I'm guessing if you order a leather wrapped steering column or fuse box cover, they just take the regular plastic one and put leather on top of it.

For lightness build then, standard full leather and no extras?

Who has made this grotesque error of
covering their beautiful 'Grey Black'
Porsche .2 997 in this 'white metallic'
crap...I mean 'wrap'!

So that was the reason you didn't
order a RS7? Because you couldn't
get the dash in leather? You are a
man's man!

Interesting find. Let's study it
& then one of us should send
an pm or email to Jeff to see
if this is what he heard about
a full leather interior being
lighter than the 'standard'!
So thanks for the research.

Interesting. Would be nice to find out what the Lightest configuration actually is even though most of us would not be able to exploit it.

Not a wrap, just the way the Targa was shot, here's another from the same camera and show;

That and the change from NA V10 to FI V8, so I guess I'm stuck with what I have unless they bring it back, love the sound!

The configurator should show the weight difference of each option on there. I bought a bike seat a couple weeks ago and they had number of grams weight for each option - thin/medium/wide, al/ti/carbon. If they can do that for a bike part that costs a hundred or two, they can do that for a car that's a thousand times as much.

In that case, you'll be horrified to know that I shaved Schrodingers cat with Occam's razor. The squealing was horrendous until the damn cat disappeared.

I was attempting to humanely replace the worn alacantra on my A pillar.

Bring it back? Do you think Ferrari will bring
back NA to their post-488? Do you think PAG
will bring back NA to the 992? Do you think
that Audi will bring back NA to their next RS?

I just added 'alcantara' A pillars to my
non-full-leather-interior 2015 gt3. It was
a piece of 'gâteau', not to be confused
with 'le chat' that you apparently abused
with a razor!

But can you tells us how you managed
to wear out your A pillars on a Porsche?

:confused::confused::confused:
I didn't write that I thought they would, but seeing that it's still used in the R8, it's possible.
