Yup, I'm of the same opinion CDinSing.... wondering why don't they fit the pistons with Ti pucks (like the Autoquest's) ? Cost difference wouldn't be too large, I'd say.... particularly when you take into consideration the unnecessary frustration building up on owners.
TRAKCAR I keep pushing and complaining, but going absolutely nowhere... and my frustration is only growing after calling PCNA
I'm wondering if the problem is more pervasive than what we think, I noticed it because I replace the pads myself, it might be going unnoticed to many owners (I'd think its more likely when car is tracked)

Unless you’re selling the car save yourself the headache and fix it right the first time.
Porsche will fix it.... on the next generation cars.

I had two calipers replace under warranty for this issue. And they've cracked again...

Is this something you would feel or not know about until you did a pad change?

^richard , spyerx post #13 explains the piece , it's a ceramic disc placed between the brake pad and the piston ram that when braking pushes the pad onto the rotor, you will not feel from a brake performance function if they are in poor condition (cracking beginning to disintegrate from heat over time ) their is a dust boot which likely will first break down which covers the piece , as well if one completely breaks down would likely lead to extended piston creating loss of and
leaking brake fluid , which would tiger low fluid sensor in the brake fluid reservoir . hope this is a help . Very weak Porsche has not remedied this common problem with re-engineered replacement parts to resolve this problem .

I had multiple broken pucks on both front calipers and never felt a loss of braking performance at the track. Only found it when we replaced pads. When it happens in the RS, I will probably just go the titanium replacement route.

^I had front and rear disintegration and same no indication thru performance only knew to look for problem from info gleaned here on RL and then confirmed at servicing pad change

Same here, no noticeable braking impact on track. Just saw the cracks during routine brake pad checks.

You are all correct in the taper issue. As the pads taper, and the piston cannot sit flush against the pad (equally distributing the forces on the puck surface), all the force is applied to a single point on the edge of the puck. And while ceramic is not very compressible, it can be brittle.

Brembo helps reduce this tapering on their Gran Turismo calipers by reducing the size of one of the leading pistons.

Don't see it as a failure but more of a design issue.

Another option is to ditch the OEM calipers and get something designed specifically for racetrack use. These pistons are ventilated, domed-back, stainless steel with anti-knockback springs. They don't crack, chip, or have any other problem, and they run considerably cooler. Our system allows you to shelve the OEM components and preserve them for when it is time to sell the car. That way the car doesn't look like it was used and abused!

Also, our full system saves 33 lbs. of unsprung weight. Tons of details in this thread:

Sorry to hear so many of you guys are having issues with the OEM pucks. We've amassed quite the pile of broken pucks at this point of those that we have removed. As some of you have mentioned, regardless of whether they are replaced under warranty they still have the potential to fail. If you want to fix the issue permanently, we do offer our titanium replacements. We were just restocked and would be happy to send them out to you for repair or proactive replacement. My cell is 484 883 6197, give me a call any time I would be happy to chat with you and discuss the process for replacement and get you back on track without any more worry.

If it's been a problem for almost 20 years, why hasn't Porsche just replaced them with the titanium ones above? Raise the price $1k! Not like you will notice.

So I had my ceramic pucks replaced with the titanium alloy pucks. The old pucks were not cracking. They look in pretty good shape. The dust boots on the front calipers were wearing out but no cracking on the pucks. And my pads weren't tapered. Second set of pads on the front, about 20,000 miles on the car with maybe 1,200 track miles. I don't baby the car when on track and have also driven it hard in the mountains. Not sure why I had no tapering and why there was no cracking.
